Politico reported Monday a source close to the Clinton campaign said her team sent "feelers" to Rice, Kissinger and other former GOP secretaries of state who have withheld support for Donald Trump.
Can someone explain to me why it would be a good thing to be endorsed by this pair of war criminals? Like, I get the idea of trying to peel voters away from Trump, but this seems just gross to me...
I know that Clinton has a camaraderie with Kissinger, for reasons I can't grasp, so that at least has an internal logic, regardless of how repulsive I, and most right thinking folks who remember their history, find him to be.
But Rice? Really? WHY?

(20,709 posts)If she doesn't win, then Trump wins. Not complicated.

(5,191 posts)So is Kissinger!
THIS is why Washington is just a little too cozy for some of us!

I'm not gonna get outraged over something that hasn't happened.

bonemachine
(757 posts)but I've known Kissinger was a soulless, evil fuck since I was a pre-teen.

(8,168 posts)I barely remember the old skeleton, he's just not relevant any longer.
bonemachine
(757 posts)then what point is there to seeking his endorsement?
Dem2
(8,168 posts)The kind of voter that votes Republican based on tradition.
But the bigger point is that she seeks endorsements by a lot of Republicans, this is just being blown out of proportion.

(44,211 posts)lots of folks are talking about unsubstantiated rumors?
My guess would be the latter. I have a pretty poor opinion of Facebook, so I don't find TRENDING ON FACEBOOK tremendously compelling.
bonemachine
(757 posts)But it does mean that it has people's attention, which is interesting in and of itself, no?
Also, that Clinton has been courting prominent republicans I think has been fairly well documented at this point, no?

(44,211 posts)I've read thru your link and I see "Mint Press News" asserting it.
And I see a couple folks repeating something in a fact-free speculative article from Politico that quoted an anonymous source.
The article speculates Clinton is after Kissinger and Rice but has no facts to back it up
I will also note that the anonymous source is paraphrased as saying Clinton campaign has sent out feelers to GOP elders. The source says NOTHING about Kissinger or Rice.
I've posted the relevant paragraphs. IMHO this article is nothing but clickbait.
Can Clinton corner Condi, Kissinger?
Winning more endorsements from wary GOP foreign policy experts presents a big opportunity.

"As Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign reaches out to Republicans alarmed by Donald Trump's national security blunders, theres a group of high-profile GOP hold-outs whose endorsement would be a major coup if the Democrat could win them over."
Condoleezza Rice, James Baker, George Shultz and Henry Kissinger are among a handful of so-called Republican elders with foreign policy and national security experience people who have held Cabinet-level or otherwise high-ranking positions in past administrations who have yet to come out for or against Trump.
A person close to Clinton said her team has sent out feelers to the GOP elders, although it wasn't clear if those efforts were preliminary or more formal requests for endorsement, or if they were undertaken through intermediaries. Clinton campaign aides did not respond when asked if they had solicited endorsements or tried to persuade the elders to speak out against Trump.
POLITICO also reached out to Rice, Baker, Kissinger and Shultz for comment, but either did not get a response, was told the person would not comment or was told they had not yet taken a position on Trump. (An aide to Rice said, We have not been in touch with the Clinton campaign, but did not elaborate further.

I've been around the block with Politico, this is not the first time they've published speculative articles with no back-up. Won't be the last.
So basically what I am seeing at your link is a bunch of folk who are very predisposed to think the worst of HRC getting way too excited about a fact-free article.
