Trump Just Told His Supporters That Assassinating Hillary Clinton Is An Option
By Jason Easley on Tue, Aug 9th, 2016 at 3:28 pm
Donald Trump suggested that one of his supporters could shoot Hillary Clinton to stop her from picking Supreme Court justices if she is elected president.

Video @ link:
Trump said, By the way, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks. Although, the Second Amendment people maybe there is. I dont know.
Donald Trumps defenders will immediately claim that he was joking, but Trumps comments certainly didnt sound like a joke. There was no laughter. Trump didnt say he was kidding. What Donald Trump was doing was suggesting that someone assassinate Hillary Clinton.
Even if Trump was joking, no one, especially not a major party presidential nominee, should joke about a presidential candidate being shot. Trump could provoke an assassination attempt against Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump isnt just a danger to the country. He is proving himself to be a personal danger to the life of the Democratic nominee.
The Secret Service should be having a conversation with Donald Trump very shortly.

(29,228 posts)We absolutely need him as the GOP standard bearer until then.
They created this monster, let them own it... and the loss of the Presidency, the Senate, and the House because of it... and then we start working on state races.
In the end, I want the GOP destroyed utterly and completely, a shell of an organization that occasionally makes news for the John Birch people they run. I want the Democrats to be the new "regressive" party and some new progressive party (true left) to arise to be the opposition.

(68,719 posts)But the Democratic party is not regressive and I doubt very much GOP types would want to be members. I am so sick of the Democratic is not this or not that...every bit of progressive achievement we have today is because of the Democrat Party. Nancy Pelosi sacrificed her majority in order to pass health care ...is it perfect? No, but it has saved thousands of lives and in my opinion, she and others like her are heroes. No party is perfect but I am proud to be a Democrat. You may not have meant your remark to be insulting but it was.

Demsrule86

(3,660 posts)What they supposedly "can do nothing about" is if she appoints judges. The 2nd amendment option then added is not linked either grammatically or logically (ok this is Trump so you wouldn't expect it) to either "she" or "judges" specifically or separately. If you don't want HRC to appoint, say, Srinivasan, you can kill either Clinton or Srinivasan to stop that and the sentences still have the exact same implication. No syntax or grammar to define either way. Extending this to logic, if anything shooting the judges would be more inductively valid, because if you kill Clinton, Kaine can still nominate Srinivasan, whereas if you kill Srinivasan, he's off the bench for sure. To be sure we can assume Kaine would nominate an equally disagreeable judge to the right, but the appointment is more effectively quashed that way, not to mention a judge would be a less challenging target. Did Trump mean Clinton or the judges? What rational person even knowns what his stream of consciousness crap means? I doubt he does. It's surely clear he means someone should be killed, and doing an armchair psych bit Clinton is more likely to be on his mind, but clear it surely isn't.

I suggest we tweet EVERYBODY at MSNBC and ALSO on CNN - to make sure they didn't miss this, and that they cover it.

So how does Trump, or how do the other GOP politicians and pundits, get away with suggesting "2nd Amendment remedies" to replace voting as a way to select office holders?

I am sorry, but even under the worst interpretation of that comment, nobody could reasonably believe that she was calling for Obama to be assassinated. But I wouldn't be surprised if they try to equate the two.

With such a contentious campaign going on, public statements like that are very frightening to the SS, and with Don the Con encouraging violence, it makes it worse.

(3,740 posts)No matter how the matter is parsed, Trump's comments are clearly calling the single-issue 2nd amendment gun owners to bring their armed power threats into the fray.
He is saying that within the Trump tribe trying to stop Madame President, the only political power with enough clout is in the not yet cold dead hands of the armed segment of their big-pup-tent tribe.

But you know the intent to cause harm and chaos to specific people and to "those lefties" in general, is conveyed by your message, and you know it will materialize.
At the least, you cause confusion in your listeners/targets. At "best", you incite more impulsive whack-jobs to do your dirty work for you. Among the middle, largest percentage of your followers, you stir up fear, anger, screaming and aggression.

We don't have to meet court-of-law prosecutorial standards before we can condemn and call-out behavior like that. We know EXACTLY what he meant! It was an inflammatory lie, followed by a call-to-action for his supporters.
IT WAS A THREAT!!
His denying what he meant by that is along the lines of someone denying that "see you next Tuesday" doesn't mean anything vulgar and misogynistic either.

(1,474 posts)I'm here on DU everyday, and have been for a coupla years -- reading, obviously, and not posting much. But this, suddenly, I have to comment: Trump I can usually dismiss as a blathering buffoon and a Cheeto-hued cocksplat. I love ridiculing him, mocking his supporters, and usually the only other emotion he raises in me is a low-grade, slow-burn angry exasperation. His latest comment insinuating that assassination is an appropriate response to political disagreement -- though it does piss me off -- actually has me on the verge of tears. I feel like I am mourning something, like I've lost a friend.
Trump is no canary in the coal mine; he is the fucking cloud of toxic gas itself, and he has permeated so thoroughly, I don't know if we will ever be able fully air the place out. I don't know if a good electoral throat-stomping of the fucker come November will be enough to eradicate Trumpism from our great republic, but it sure as hell is what I will be working for. Thank god that for the first time in my life I can vote in a battle-ground state (moved to NV recently).
Sorry for the long post; I think I needed to vent...

(190 posts)Trump's comments are extremely dangerous, and go to prove that every thing people have said about him are very true. It would be morbidly humorous if he could be labeled as a loony caricature of the nastiness of the right, but he and his supporters have demonstrated that he is the real deal. He has ripped the mask off of the cesspit that is modern unprincipled conservatism, that seeks power for the sake of power.
Just know that your not alone, and that Trump no real chance of being elected, and that the reactionary right is fading, however slowly, but fading nonetheless.

WILMINGTON, N.C., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Secret Service could potentially take a step unprecedented in American political history -- investigate one of the candidates it is assigned to protect.
The agency said it is "aware" of a remark made by GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump at a North Carolina campaign stop on Tuesday, which appeared to some a thinly-veiled quip about threatening Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton with gun violence.
