Work avoidance...digging on Meredith McIver.
Coincidence?? From Trump's Scottish Ancestry. If Trump was going to make up a
name - sounds just like him to pick a name that meant something to him.

Trump Scottish Ancestry
The Family History of Mary Anne MacLeod,
the Mother of Donald J. Trump
by Tony Reid
Genealogy
Mary Anne was born on 10th May 1912 at 3 Tong, Stornoway to Malcolm MacLeod and his wife Mary Smith. The family lived at Tong, a small fishing/crofting township lying 3-4 miles from Stornoway, the only town on the Isle of Lewis. The parents married in 1891 within the Free Church of Scotland, Tong. Malcolm was a local fisherman/crofter, the son of Alexander MacLeod and Annie MacLeod. At the time of the 1901 Census, Malcolm and Mary already had six children.
Alexander, also a crofter/fisherman, would have been born in about 1832. He married Ann MacLeod, also a Tong resident, in 1853 and died in Tong in 1900. According to his son Malcolm, who was the informant of his fathers death, Alexander was the son of William MacLeod, a crofter, and Catherine MacLeod. William died at nearby Vatisker in 1869 and, according to his son Alexander; he was the son of Kenneth MacLeod and [font color=red][font size=3.5]

Trump is not a smart man. I think once his stories start to unravel, we'll see a snowball effect.

(42,770 posts)control/protect all information and make up whatever he wanted. Politics is different. And you are so right - he is not smart to figure this out - the difference. What's ironic is that it was he who supposedly kept digging into Obama's roots. So, why wouldn't others do the same with him.
Unfortunately, he has SO many flaws and gaffes and crazy shit that there aren't enough journalists left to investigate it all.

(42,770 posts)in Scotland over Trump's golf course there. Pretty interesting. He supposedly effed up the beautiful countryside. And is suing Scotland? For spoiling his view with ugly wind mills !

(6,375 posts)...scarry part is that in my generation, there's a Malcolm who was named after an uncle.
Cue twilight zone music...what are the odds of multiple non-related MacLeod families on an island with a population under 5,000 (in those days).
good news - my dad turned out ok and he would be proud to vote HRC.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Not sure what you mean? Your generation...there is a Malcolm McLeod? Very interesting. Has your family traced back before your dad?
CincyDem
(6,375 posts)In my generation there is a Malcolm MacLeod. He's a little older than me. I'd always heard he was named after his dad's uncle...so that would be his grandfathers brother ? How many Malcolm MacLeods were there on a small island in the late 1800's? Who knows.
We haven't traced back very far. Technically, my dad was NOT a MacLeod. His mother disappeared (died???) when he was an infant up in Stornoway. Not sure how/why but he was taken in by the MacLeod's of Stornoway. He lived up there until he was 10 and then moved down to Glasgow to live with a MacLeod sister until he joined the navy at 17 (more likely 16 lying about his age). For me growing up, the MacLeod's were the only family on his side I ever knew.
Lots of fun stories in his life beyond this. I'm not sure if he knew about the possible connection but I'm sure he's spinning in grave over it. He was a Chicago democrat who was HRC all the way in 08.

(42,770 posts)birther thing. At least I had never heard bad things. Watching the Apprentice - he seemed to always act calm and dignified. He will lose more than this election in the process - the whole world now knows what a nut case he is.
If you haven't, you may want to read up on some of the dealings surrounding his golf course in Scotland. And, the gutsy guy, Forbes, who refused to sell out to him and how he ruined the beautiful countryside.

My IQ dropped instantly upon making the discovery!
I gave books of our genealogy to my nieces and nephews during a past Christmas and mentioned some of the most interesting ancestors to them. They didn't seem particularly intrigued.
I then mentioned, in passing, that we're 9th and 10th cousins to President Dumbya (through his father). My young Republican relatives were THRILLED about that!

(155 posts)I've been working on my family tree for at least a decade, and I haven't found anything to disprove that I'm 8th cousins with Dubya (and therefore 7th cousins once removed from HW).
Artist's rendering of me ever since I found that fact out ==>
And on my mother's James Buchanan is a first cousin 6 times removed, because apparently I'm not allowed to be related to the good presidents LOL.

(14,855 posts)We're all distant cousins of Albert Einstein, Gandhi, Adolf Hitler and Osama Bin Laden.
I haven't done genealogical research in many years. I got into the hobby because of a rare genetic condition that causes blindness in my family. The defective gene is recessive and very rare, meaning that my parents were both carriers of a defective gene. Researchers at Harvard wanted information about my family tree, and that got the ball rolling.
I never found a shared ancestor between my parents! That's assuming there was no "hanky-panky" in the past between their ancestors who lived in the same areas. Again, just like we're all related, my parents are related at some point. I just never found the shared ancestor(s) going back at least six generations on all sides!
Genealogy can become an ADDICTIVE hobby! Lol.
This is a shot in the dark, but is your shared ancestor with Dumbya and his father perhaps a mariner along the East Coast who was captured by Barbary pirates and never heard from again? That's mine. His wife was allowed to remarry after several years passed and he was officially presumed dead.
MacGregor
(155 posts)My grandfather had a lot of purported family history information, including a supposition that we were part of the MacGregor clan. Not only could I not confirm it, the more I researched, the further away I got from it LOL.
In fact, I would say at least half of what my grandfather claimed turned out to be wrong or maybe they were things he misheard or were mistaken about from boyhood. I'm still uncovering mistakes and new information as new records come online -- addictive ain't the half of it.
As for my common Dumbya ancestors, they were actually mid-1600's French Huguenots in Virginia. French! Quel scandale!
That's completely wild about the genetic condition!

(14,855 posts)... in regard to alleged distant ancestors.
I was lucky to have ancestors who lived in areas that didn't have courthouses that burnt down. The records were pretty good. Once you go back far enough, it all becomes sparse and pretty unreliable unless connections to "royal" families are made.
The Revolutionary War pension files were tremendous! Some of my ancestors even included old Bible records!
I helped Maryland identify the grandparents and great-grandparents of General Otho Holland Williams through my Williams research. One of my direct ancestors was Otho's uncle. Here's a Peale portrait of Otho:
Like I said, I haven't been involved in that hobby for years. Once it became so difficult to eke out further information, I questioned what the heck I was doing with my time. LOL.
