means what he says about real funding. If this guy can perform nicely in front of the cameras, more money will flood in. He doesn't need to win to improve things greatly for the GOP and hurt us. He's entering as a spoiler for the Democrats AND to get the Republican Party a new face.

He has a nice resume of being concerned about refugees but is an ex-CIA officer who is strong on defense. He worked as a banker at Goldman Sachs before working for the GOP Congress but will undoubtedly pose as an outsider who's never held office and try to draw both anti-establishment populists and mainstream conservatives.

My scary question is, could they possibly hope to throw the election to the Republican-controlled Congress? I.e., could he win anyway?

But my almost as scary questions are,

* We now have a fairly good chance of getting a majority in the Senate, perhaps even control. Could he spoil that by drawing off voters?

* We have a distant but real chance of getting a majority in the House. Has that just become
virtually impossible for the same reason?

* How might this affect all the other down-ticket races we have hopes of winning?

He has very little charisma. He's a wonky nerdy guy. This is a joke.

He's a handsome, intelligent, articulate guy

And a bachelor in his 40s. That's sort of interesting and maybe a breakthrough of sorts.

When was our last bachelor president?

However he does not have big room charisma that I can tell.

Wonder how the Goldman Sachs connection will play? Or how Julian Assange and Vlad Putin feel about having an actual CIA agent in the race?

of getting majorities in the House and even the Senate. AND to rescue the image of the GOP somewhat. Even though he's running as an independent the party could embrace him enough to give conservatives sufficient hope that they will continue on with McConnell, Ryan, the Koch alliance, etc.

As for 3 years at Goldman-Sachs, I'm guessing that won't hurt him with conservative voters, more perhaps just nicely rounded experience?

But there are ways that could backfire on us.

They don't need to win. They need to keep anyone from reaching 270, and then the House decides.

I hope the immediate effect is to make Trump lose his shit. It well could.

... then they should be running a strong anti-abortion candidate.

Trump's lead over Clinton among white evangelical Christians was 69% to 19% in a recent poll, his biggest lead BY FAR among any group. Their main concern is stacking the Supreme Court with anti-abortion judges.

Hmm... I'm not too giddy about him running at this point. I doubt that he'll end up hurting Clinton, but I'd feel better if I KNEW that he'd hurt Trump.

Yeah, the religious nuts would probably prefer a multiple-divorced creep like Trump instead of a bachelor. He might be GAY! Oh, no!

27. So there's a Utah connection
Mon Aug 8, 2016, 10:07 AM
Aug 2016

The plot thickens. He's a BYU grad from Provo. If he's LDS he's anti-choice, most likely. And he could destiny Trump in Utah with that BYU degree.

But the batchelor thing gets even more interesting.

If this is a Utah-specific candidate that's fascinating. It really would be a boost to Hillary at little risk to her if so.

What are the odds a never-married maybe-Mormon CIA agent and a constitution-waving Muslim gold star dad and mom cost Trump his dreams? Who could make this shit up?

What strange times.

What are the filing deadlines in the big three LDS states?

This is a crazy development but if it's a specific play for LDS voters in those states it helps Hillary immensely with no downside.

Mormons certainly do mind this and it's why Johnson is at 17% in Utah.

Say what you will about LDS folks, they are serious about the character issue.
