(68,667 posts)it still cost him big dollars to fight in those states. Trump's Ohio operation is not up and running I hear.

(70,581 posts)Not only is the Governor against him but a senior member of the OH GOP has M.S. and
has been very public about how much he does not like Trump after Trump made fun of
that NY Times' reporter's neuromuscular illness.

(1,907 posts)I have read articles saying there is only a 3.9% difference between democrat and republican. But there was 16% more votes repub in the last prez election. So getting mixed messages on line. But pretty sure this election will move Texas further left. And just demographics will be moving it further in the future. A lot does depend on what the next 4 years hold.

(11,607 posts)Based on the fact that the Latino population is growing faster than the white population, and many of the old southern racists are dying off.

1964 might be Trump's model for 2016

.... solid red to leans red.
Trump has lost women (except for white christian females), African Americans,
and Hispanics ..... add Pence's anti Gay & Lesbian actions and even in S. Carolina
the math becomes a bit harder for Trump.
S. Carolina is about 28 to 30% African American and its Hispanic population
is growing too. Although S. Carolina's PTB have been working for years to
keep blacks from voting.

I go over at lunch and see if any of our second place trophies on Monument Avenue (Richmond VA) are crying.

(32,088 posts)I have been seeing far more Hillary bumper stickers and signs than I do those for Trump. I have also noticed at least as many LTEs and op-eds in the local papers stating that say we shouldn't vote for him, because he's dangerous, if not more than those that support him. I know it's just anecdotal, but I don't get the sense there is the same enthusiasm here for Trump that there has been for previous republican candidates. That's not to say that I think my state will turn "blue" in November. But then, we do have those black box voting machines, and our governor has been at odds with Trump... I wouldn't put it past her, especially since she likely has presidential aspirations of her own.

(113 posts)And for this election, there's been a large increase in the Latino voter registration for this election:

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

(4,311 posts)that is the only scenario in which I would believe the Repubs will actually try to dump Trump. They cannot afford to lose Texas, and I don't mean in this presidential race alone. If Latinos and other Dems in Texas get registered and vote and feel enfranchised, that will really be the end of the GOP being able to win national elections.

(58,785 posts)I'll feel better when I know most of America understands Trump is truly dysfunctional and dangerous, though. A lot of people do not think it's unreasonable to worry about a terrorist attack in the U.S. designed to elect Trump and defeat Clinton.
If that were to happen, it'd be terribly important that most of a frightened and angry electorate turned to Clinton for safety.
And of course far more states than necessary going for Hillary ahead of time could be helpful in such a case, and a mandate would be wonderful. Even so, I'd be interested in trading some new-blue-president states for some new-blue senators and governorships.

(3,957 posts)since my husband is still a registered R. He told them that he was not supporting Trump and was voting for Hillary. The door knocker said she was hearing a lot of that and only wanted to know if he would continue to support the congressional candidates. My husband thought it was interesting that they didn't come back with anything concerning why he should support Trump. It was all about the down ticket.
