2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumInsiders to Trump: Drop out
this is getting funnier- and weirder- by the hour.
Amid widespread chatter that DonaldTrump could drop out of the presidential race before Election Day, Republican insiders in key battleground states have a message for The Donald: Get out.
Thats according to The POLITICO Caucus a panel of activists, strategists and operatives in 11 swing states. The majority of GOP insiders, 70 percent, said they want Trump to drop out of the race and be replaced by another Republican candidate with many citing Trumps drag on Republicans in down-ballot races. But those insiders still think its a long-shot Trump would actually end his campaign and be replaced by another GOP candidate.
Id rather take our chances with nearly anyone else than continue with this certain loser who will likely cost the Senate and much more, said a New Hampshire Republican who, like all respondents, completed the survey anonymously.
The effect Trump is having on down-ballot races has the potential to be devastating in November, added a Florida Republican. His negative image among Hispanics, women and independents is something that could be devastating to Republicans. Trumps divisive rhetoric to the Hispanic community at large has the potential to be devastating for years to come.

In any case, the likelihood of dangerous ideology from the right will always be with us.

(10,886 posts)We will certainly take back the Senate.
And we will make big gains in the House.
If they replace him with an "acceptable" candidate like Romney, who knows what happens.

(26,060 posts)The man has a true narcissistic personality disorder. He will honestly think the polls are rigged against him - no matter what anyone says. He's already claimed himself the healthiest person to run for the Presidency - I don't think his ego will allow him to believe things have turned against him and that he actually may lose.

(114,904 posts)He's clearly aware that the polls are turning sharply against him, and whether he thinks they're rigged or not, I don't think his fragile and enormous ego could take a coast to coast drubbing.
Do you think with that personality disorder he can be fool himself into believing there is really some kind polling conspiracy and that if he just plows through, he can prove everyone actually loves him and it's only the media that is trying to bring him down with "bullshit" polls? I honestly don't think you can convince him everyone doesn't love him. THAT's how bad it is.

(26,060 posts)he thinks they are (amazing how they're perfectly ok and legitimate when he's ahead). If you had to guess, what excuse can you see him using that would also allow him to save face? Medical? Something with the kids?

(3,630 posts)Taking Trump out now would essentially mean throwing the election due to the states where the new candidate (assuming they can even pick one quickly enough) wouldn't be able to get on the ballot. It's hard to see that helping the downballot situation compared to Trump staying in.
