Something Very Fishy Is Going on with Trump — And We’re All Missing It

BNR, Peter Daou

Something fishy is going on with Donald, something more than just a bloviator mouthing off, more than just a self-obsessed braggart playing president on the national stage.

Is this about the Overton Window? Is Donald moving the needle on what is acceptable in the public sphere to the far right?

Or is this about toying with the national media, who continue (astonishingly) to give Hillary worse coverage?

It it about goading his supporters and laying the groundwork for violent extremism?

Is it about trolling the American people for sport?

Whatever it is, something feels fishy; it feels like we’re getting played. And we need to pay careful attention. Complacency is dangerous in these circumstances.

What's going on is the collapse of a half-assed campaign of an absolutely ignorant asshole.
A trust-fund fascist that can't remember 1/10 of the stupid shit that comes out of his mouth.

Drumpf is not even remotely sophisticated enough to know about the Overton Window.

He's just being his normal arrogant, intellectually incurious, boorish self.

... sound like a 8 yr old doing such then the media will applaud him.

I don't think he planned all that on purpose but our media is full of hacks who helped his ass get to the point where he's at now.

manipulation of mass behavior. Finally, after decades of it. The "Overton Window" has been manipulated too far right in university teachings, media, government, etc. The consequences are being lived with by ordinary people and are now in the process of being rejected by many.

Not that people in the angry populist movements necessarily understand it in those terms. But the right at least was supposed to eventually support the privatization or repeal of Social Security, and instead they're finally getting angry at a confused but strong realization that they're being betrayed and are rebelling. They didn't know "getting off the backs of business" meant losing the right to guaranteed vacation time, much less paid.

Trump is leading the right-wing populist rebellion. I imagine someone must have explained that to him at some point, although whether he paid enough attention to understand is anyone's question.

Long before he took out all his opponents.

If anyone would have listened to him before the convention, they would have known.

The biggest lesson from this: Republicans didn't have Super Delegates and they would have been able to block him at the convention.

his supporters are missing it.

We know this is a money grubbing scam for his next reality show & to dig himself out of debt.

The maggot thinks we are ALL stupid, and it is sport for him. He says sth horrible every single day, insulting someone for coverage.

He is a vindictive jerk , as evidenced by his use of Paul Ryan's words to not support him.

The NYT has reported only 9% of eligible Americans voted for Trump and Hillary combined in the primaries.

According to the Times, Clinton and Trump will be courting the following groups in the general election:

• 30 million Americans who voted for someone else in the primary;

• 73 million eligible Americans who did not vote in the primaries;

• 88 million eligible Americans who do not vote at all.

It enabled brain damaged thug criminal to take over the state. We have complacency in this country but as of present the thug to lead it has yet to emerge. The people that have been put in front of us are mostly just followers.

He gets big ratings because the Overton Window was already that wide.

In the land of Kardadhians, Jersey Shorers and duck callers, why accuse Trump of conspiring to lower the bar?

There's a big revelation coming from Wikileaks that will hurt Clinton. Trump is trying to increase the negative impact by setting up the media for a massive "equalization" of news coverage, a rebound effect.

Holding out for the right price. Koch's have a lot of money and influence to give Don the Con
Whatever the price is. He has made Melania unacceptable to Repubs with the speech and release of naked pics. He has made himself unacceptable to the military and continues to ratchet it up.
When. They replace him it won't have the same effect as it would have during the convention.
Everyday he says 15 more insane things. I think there is a price tag behind the madness. I think
We should be very vigilient. This is too obvious now.
