Ran for office in California I think. I believe like many his age and those of his sort of conservative politics, they long for the good old days when white men ruled the world. They can't adjust to change.

People like my Grandma who lived through the depression always tell me how great it was. Part of it was the fact they were young..,we tend to look back on our young years with nostalgia I think. I can't imagine the depression being good times.

Like his many iconic western characters, perhaps he'd intervene if someone was actually, say, beating up a minority person right in front of him, but otherwise he just doesn't like hearing about it "all the time." Doesn't seem right, though, to acknowledge that crimes are happening, but suggest that victims should suffer in silence until some hero/cowboy/whiteguy can randomly show up and save yer ass. Not really a good plan for reducing such crime and behavior in society as a whole. Like trying to solve poverty and inequality by holding church bake sales...

If I had to guess, I'd say Clint may be the kind of person who thinks hate crime laws are redundant with "regular" crime laws.

Disclaimer: I haven't read anything about him or by him regarding his views on such matters. I've always liked and respected his body of cinematic work... which is probably why my brain wants so hard to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Argh.

Personally I thought Eastwood was an overrated actor and director long before I knew he was an asshole.

You know, I can think of a lot of things that were said when I was growing up, but I am not allowed to say them here or much of anywhere other than perhaps a Trump rally.

...especially by the actors that work for him. He's very efficient, doesn't waste time, gets things right on the first shot. I liked a lot of his roles, although he isn't any great shakes as an actor.

And none of that changes the fact that he's a fucking asshole, and seems to be getting worse the older he gets.

when Million Dollar Baby won the Best Picture Oscar. There were much better films out that year. It felt like it got the Oscar because of Eastwood's name. Also the lead was originally suppose to go to Morgan Freeman, who I think would have been more believable and better suited for the role.

I have liked some of his movies, but as you said, "None of that changes the fact that he's a fucking asshole". Somehow I can't view any of his work quite the same anymore, though its easier if he isn't in it. Keep that giant ego behind the camera.

Racism? I'll be they didn't call misogyny misogyny, either. A lot of child abuse didn't get that label, either.

Whateverthefuck you call it, Clint, it's still a problem.
