PAUL MANAFORTE ready to back Ryan for President

Manaforte speaking to Charlie, Gayle and Norah on CBS morning show earlier today lets it slip that he'll be ready to support Paul Ryan for President next week.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/paul-manafort-endorses-paul-ryan-mistake-226657

"Look. I support the speaker and I know after next week, I'm supporting him as a candidate for president, too," Manafort said on "CBS This Morning," before quickly correcting himself amid laughter during a discussion about the Republican nominee's refusal to outright endorse the House speaker in his primary against Paul Nehlen on Tuesday.

Oops! Could there be a Plan B being discussed? Of course there is but how plausible is it?

Who knows what the unintended consequences could be. We have a steady path, and given the current dynamic our candidate is strongly favored to win.

Baby Donald isn't going anywhere. If they ask him to quit he's only going to push back harder, and waste more media time talking about Republicans. He's a 260lb faux-gold-plated turd of a hood ornament welded to the front of their 2005 Dodge Neon.

where I live - which I'm told has possibly the greatest concentration of Trump supporters per capita than any other region in the country. Lots of republican townships and such.

And again, just a rumor, might have been something Howard Stern started but it goes something like the only reason Trump got into the race and is acting so destructively is that he WANTS to be asked to leave and his price to get out of the race is a clear path to the development rights of Jones Beach and Robert Moses Park.

He's been pushing to grow the restaurant there since 2008 and his big plan is to build a casino, have it look more like Atlantic City.

Again, just a rumor but boy, to this Long Islander it makes all his crazy (crazy like a fox!) make sense.

Thu Aug 4, 2016, 09:50 AM
Aug 2016

In what they champion as a "change" election, witnessing the epitome of the GOP establishment replacing their guy Trump at the top of the ticket would create further schism in the party. Ryan's positions on free trade and immigration policy would be anathema to them. Some would certainly choose to back whoever the GOP nominee is. Others would be ticked off and either not vote, vote for the Libertarian ticket, or (gasp) even vote for Hillary out of spite. But further splintering of the party would not help thir chances any. It's lose-lose either way.

And yes he'd be a much tougher opponent.

But to get there they have to get Trump to a)stand down and b) throw wholehearted support behind Ryan. If they abuse the definition of "otherwise" in rule 9 and depose him the Trumpenproletariat will go nuts and abandon the GOP for decades. Even if he decides quitting is better on the hypersensitive hyperinflated ego than getting shellacked by a woman no less and just steps down voluntarily and does nothing else, his unthinking horde will still be disheartened and whiny enough about "rigging" to tank 2016 and probably 2020. Only if he personally frames it as a better move to "make America great," a tricky proposition even for an orator who actually possesess nuance and guile after saying "only I can fix it" will they even possibly support plan b (although admittedly that would energize plenty of nevertrumpers on he right, but they are not as numerous, QED primaries.)

Does he have the political savvy, sense and wider view to do this? It is to laugh. Do the Kochs and Adelson have enough money to pay him to fake it on a tight script? Quite possibly, but at this point it's a slim chance that they will take the risk, he will take the demotion, and his minions will take the hint.

32. While I agree Ryan would be tougher
Thu Aug 4, 2016, 10:38 AM
Aug 2016

In a debate. Primarily because he's able to form complete sentences, one after another...

Still, I can't help shake the idea that Trump can be bought off. I mentioned the rumor (upthread) that he wants Jones Beach development rights...so while I don't think they can push him out, I do believe some story is being concocted along with a portfolio of parting gifts in order to send him packing. He may have a huge ego, but I think it's surpassed by his innate greed. And there might be a story convincing enough that the party would retain some of his less ardent supporters. Ryan would certainly bring back what's left of the moderate republican vote.

Just not enough to beat Hillary though. So for our side, whatever they do, if we navigate it wisely and GOTV, it's a win.

There was a time when the Catholic Church had two Popes that could both legitimately claim to be the leader of the Church. It is called the Western Great Schism, and it began on September 20, 1378 when the same college of cardinals elected Clement VII in Avignon, France. Trouble was they had just elected another guy six months earlier. So, the other guy was the Pope and Clement was the 'Anti-Pope.'

I was just thinking that this scenario could play out here with Trump as the 'legitimate' pope and Ryan as the anti-pope of the Republican Party!
