Trump Pauses Washington Post Interview Five Times to Watch TV

Philip Rucker and the GOP candidate sat down for an interview at Trump National Golf Club, a television tuned to Fox News was playing in background. Trump evidently watched it closely for the entire 50-minute interview, commentating on Fox’s programming with regularity even when it meant derailing the topic at hand:

1.

RUCKER: Would you want [Ivanka] to follow the path that Gretchen Carlson did?

TRUMP: I’d want her to do what makes her happy. I’d want her to do, Phil, what makes her happy. [Trump looks at a nearby television.] Oh, did they have another one of these things go down? It’s terrible that crash. Never liked that plane, structurally. I never thought that plane could —

2.

TRUMP: They’re very close elections. [Tim Kaine] even said they were very close. But his first move as governor of Virginia was to raise taxes by 4 billion dollars. He was not popular in Virginia. He wasn’t popular. [Trump looks up at the television] Do you believe that Debbie Schultz, Wasserman Schultz, there she is. She’s very happy — look how happy she looks. She looks very happy.

3.

RUCKER: Even though on a couple of these instances he’s shone some daylight with you, like over the Khan —

[crosstalk]

TRUMP: [Trump watches himself on TV] Lot of energy. We got a lot of energy. She certainly doesn’t look presidential to me, Hillary. I don’t think you get to look less presidential actually than Hillary.

4

RUCKER: Well, half the people in your rallies are veterans.

TRUMP: [Looks at the television again] Look at this. It’s all Trump all day long. That’s why their ratings are through the roof. I’d hate to say, Philip, if I wasn’t running, the television networks would be doing less than half the business.

Trump's only concern is publicity and obsessive self promotion. He's incapable of seeing anything in terms other than "how does this make me look",he's truly mentally ill.

It's literally Trump's SOP: watch TV, tweet stream of consciousness when one hits.

That's something Trump actually knows about. He's doing reality tv without having to pay for time. The outcome he wants is ratings. The best way to keep his name out there is to do something tv worthy every day. He's not a politician at all. He's a reality tv guy.

unless the topic is about himself, he can't hold still for more than five or ten minutes, tops

it was one of the major takeaways from that stunning article

he matter of factly talks about that book as if he wrote it himself, and he didn't really write a WORD, just some red markings in the margins, according to Schwartz

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/07/25/donald-trumps-ghostwriter-tells-all

eight pages or so in the print edition. my computer doesn't like this page, so I dunno how much is there, but check it out. it gets to the HEART of this creature, not that he has a functioning one

The speech/behavior pattern in the interview reminds me of my father in the early/mid stage of Alzheimer's, and my mother who had vascular dementia. The TV is more real to him than than what's going on in the room, because what's going on in the room is too confusing and difficult for him.

this is all about his ego. Just like all of his other failures. there is no sense of duty or loyalty to this country or it's people. Just a toy for a bored rich kid to play with and the attention that he craves so much.

Its sick and sad that anybody fell for this guy's bs. I really feel for his voters. When he quits on them or gets deposed by the RNC, they are going to be suicidal. They put all of their eggs in one basket that had massive holes in it.

This is possibly , God help us all, the next president that either has the attention span of a may fly, the intelligence of a chimp-and that would be an insult to chimps and all simians out there-or the rudeness and disrespect of a spoiled, over fed, megalomaniac! Who believes himself to be the smartest guy on the planet...well of course he does..

he has been surrounded all his life wife sycophantic worshipping staff, family that needs to keep sucking off the Trump teat, attorneys that are making a sh*t load of coin handling his dumb ass abusive lawsuits over pennies compared to his self proclaimed wealth.

If Trump wore a dirty diaper on his head, and ran around his office yelling, "look at me, I'm the king of America," His supporters would point and say he's a genius for gaming the dumocrats and lamestream media. Trumpanzees are so awesomely delusional you can't help but laugh

What the everloving F---? This has to be performance art now. Like he is genuinely trying to see how unlikeable he can be, and still be supported. 50 years from now, people will study this and not believe it.
