Anthony Weiner vs Donald Trump. No comparison.
I asked my son two weeks ago what movie he would like to see and he said "Wiener." Really, very good movie about a brilliant political figure with a driving obsessive need. But Wiener is so much different than Donald Trump. Anthony was interested in helping people, and learning the issues, and he largely dedicated his life to helping citizens. Except for that one obsession.
Donald Trump too has an obsession, this to let everyone know how smart he is, how better than anyone he is, etc. And also how he will respond to any incredibly trivial slight on his character. Hillary Clinton had it right--"Should someone who rises to the bait in a tweet be allowed to have his finger in the nuclear trigger?" The answer is clearly 1000 times no!
The movie "Wiener' explores the train wreck of the Wiener campaign. It is certainly worth watching and one feels utterly sorry for Anthony and his obsession and feels much, much more sorry for his wife, Huma Abedine, and the misery that Anthony created for her and their son, as well as workers on his political campaign. He had all the skills and commitment to help people in need and he applied them in a focused way -- and yet he had time to do other things, to let his bete noire, his dark side, take control.
But really quite poignant was the observation in the movie by Anthony Wiener that not once did he actually engage in physical contact with the people that he was messaging, texting, etc. And also, one of the women who brought him down the most was clearly using him in a deliberate fashion to further her own ends.
At any rate, it's an excellent movie -- and Weiner, with all of his obsessions, is a far, far better servant of the people than Donald Trump. (Of course his obsession is an incredible deal-breaker. "Besides that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"
Any thoughts about this comparison?
