There must be more of this. We need to run people in each and every Congressional and Senatorial district in the nation. There is a move on to run candidates in each Congressional district in 2014, in order to give enough time to recruit candidates, and get the word out to the public that these, and only these candidates represent WE THE PEOPLE, not them, the corporations.
We must occupy our government, if we are to take it back from the corporations, who have taken it from WE THE PEOPLE.

Schneider is a Blue Dog. Tree is an Air Force officer. The other candidate is too far down in the polls to be factor, so I don't know about her.

This is one of our biggest problems. To many conservadems and bloody bluedogs that I sometimes can't tell difference between them and Repubs.

He's a party insider who has been a member of astroturf top-down organizations like MoveOn, and he was never an active part of Occupy Chicago.

Besides, John Tree would have a much better shot at beating the Republican incumbent.

Guys like that aren't going to be progressive. Plus, he's been in a weak third-place the whole time.

Other than his uniform...what has he got?

He was REALLY up on his stuff, seemed to have done his homework. I asked Howard Dean
about him, and Howard gave him two thumbs up as well, which is one strong endorsement
for me.

Anyway, I have no idea how well he's doing. But if Howard liked him, chances are he's no dummy,
and can be pretty persuasive with audiences that, unlike me, can vote in his district.

I got a long note from Jim Dean about how disappointed DFA was about that, but also noting how Ilya was just 25, and could have a long future in IL politics if he stuck with it.

17. The Illinois Progressive Out To Put A ‘Blue Dog’ Down

If this election year represents a potential crossroads for Democrats — wherein the party must choose to either embrace progressive principles or espouse moderation in the name of electability — Tuesday’s U.S. House primary contest in Illinois’s 10th Congressional District might well be instructive.

The contentious race pits Ilya Sheyman — a 25-year-old former community organizer who’s won the support of MoveOn, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) and Howard Dean — against Brad Schneider, a long-time management consultant backed by Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and a host of others within the Illinois and national party establishment. Both are competing for the right to take on incumbent Republican Rep. Robert Dold in the fall.

Sheyman’s liberal supporters have characterized the race as a choice between a progressive and a “Blue Dog,” a reference to the coalition of conservative House Democrats and a swipe at Schneider’s alleged centrism. It’s a label the Schneider campaign has pushed back hard against.

----------

Adam Ruben, political director for MoveOn, denies that his group has ever described Schneider as a Blue Dog, saying they have simply drawn attention to his connections with the Republican party. “What we’ve been very careful to do is just urge voters to look at his record,” Ruben told TPM. “We’re saying that Brad Schneider’s record shows that he’s acted like a Republican and that we should look at what he’s done.”
