Khan slams Trump's Purple Heart comments: 'You did not serve'
The father of Capt. Humayun Khan, a Muslim American soldier killed in the Iraq War, on Tuesday criticized Donald Trump for his response after a military veteran presented the GOP nominee with a Purple Heart.
"A man comes to him, a veteran, so kindly, what a gracious man, hands him his Purple Heart. What he does: he receives it, thanks him, puts it in his pocket, later on pulls it out, 'I got this Purple Heart, so easy, I always wanted one,'" Khizr Khan said Tuesday on CNN.
"Donald Trump. You had the time. You did not serve."
A military veteran on Tuesday presented Trump with a Purple Heart ahead of his rally in Virginia. The man was identified as a lieutenant colonel. The Purple Heart is a military award given to someone who is wounded or killed while serving.
Man, that's big stuff, Trump said Tuesday during his rally. I always wanted to get the Purple Heart this was much easier. I'll tell you, it was such an honor.
Khan on Tuesday lashed out at Trump, slamming the GOP nominee for his lack of empathy.
