(473 posts)And they wonder why they are the poorest county in the state.
IfPalinisAnswerWatsQ
(452 posts)Arguably the most Republican county in the state, and Gillibrand won it. Even when Schumer won 71.2% in 2004, he carried every county in the state (including Allegany), but NOT Hamilton. She did. That's saying something.
She overperformed Obama by 9 points in the state. Granted, her opponent was a right-wing wacko with no name ID, but still. Winning Hamilton County is huge.

(452 posts)And NY is one of the original 13 colonies.
Schumer won 71.2% of the vote in 2004.
Gillibrand looks like she might even get to 72.7%, there's still a bunch of vote outstanding it appears.
If you look at the exit polls, you can see that 30% of self-identified Republicans voted for her.
Her opponent (Wendy Long) had almost no name recognition BUT she was one of the 13 senate candidates running who did not believe in abortion in the case of rape or incest. So she's basically a female version of Akin or Mourdock. That's not gonna get it done in NY state, one of the first states to legalize abortion before Roe v. Wade even.

(11,155 posts)from Hillary Clinton and all the hand ringing about her possibly maybe being a RINO. Three statewide campaigns in 4 years is rough. I think I saw/heard maybe two ads for Wendy Long.

(3,502 posts)I could not have even told you the name of her opponent. Even when I voted there was no real need to read the Republican line. I did know it was a woman, because I saw a little bit on the race on local tv Election Day morning. I saw lots of ads for Gillibrand. If I saw one for Long I don't recall. Guess the party was not putting their money into that race.
