And it's been pretty steady since '08 with no sign of rising. While border counties may rake up higher margins Travis is still the truest liberal D county in the state - I believe it was the only county in TX to reject the marriage amendment way back

The only "competitive" House district in the state was supposed to have been held by Canseco (R). Looks like he's lost by at least 6 pts. A great victory, Canseco is one of those types who just gets (got) under your skin - you know the kind, one of those sanctimonious religious types who sounds like they just want to take America and give it a good spanking.

I would love this to be true, however, I have lived in Arizona now for the last 20 years. This state has moved further to the tea-bagging right every year I have been here.

Oh, sure, Tucson & Flagstaff are liberal bastions, but Phoenix and the 'country' are hardcore red.

My disgust with the Republican party is in part because I have watched the Tea Party, the Neo Cons, and Religious Right make huge inroads into the Goldwater state. Many here may not like him, but Barry Goldwater would never have tolerated the GOP as it is today and actually warned against it. Now the institute that bears his name is a mouth piece for that crap.

I know there is hope that more socially liberal minded conservatives like myself will leave the GOP as I did and join the Democratic party but I wouldn't hold your breath. There is definitely the Hispanic population to watch but those like Brewer and Arpaio will not go down without a long and protracted fight. Of course, old Joe is 80 now so maybe he'll die soon in this ever worsening heat.
