"I ask you as a professional courtesy to me to not engage in any kind of protest on the floor"
THANK YOU BERNIE!
Update: He just sent out an email imploring supporters to stop this madness.

(81,350 posts)Both he and Elizabeth Warren stand to benefit BIG-TIME from powerful positions - like the chair - on the heavyweight committees. They'd have more clout there than from the VP position.
That assumes, of course, that we do well enough in November to take back the Senate.

(81,350 posts)What if he could get a Cabinet position? Is that a bad thing? I humbly submit that wasn't an insult. Or, at least, it sure didn't seem like one.
I'd actually rather see Bernie stay in the Senate where, if we flip it back to blue in November, he'd land a major-league committee chairmanship (as opposed to "ranking member" - where there's some serious clout to be had (and used).

(10,272 posts)Because he believes that 50-State strategy really works (and he's right..provided you have someone willing to get in the ring against republicans and bring with them the weapons of good policy planks). The concessions he got extracted re party policy ARE a win, and I'm glad that nominee Hillary is bound now to support them.
Next on his agenda should be Publicly-funded federal elections via national tax, and voting day as a national holiday. Everything else that's wrong CANNOT be fixed in the real world without elected officials being monetarily bound to the PEOPLE who fund the keeping of their jobs.
That should be WE the People, not I, the Corporation.

(332 posts)I know it was hard for him to concede to Hillary, but he did endorse her ! And he has continued to rebutt Trump throughout the weeks leading to the convention. The small group of people trying to start shit are NOT his true supporters ...and he's not having any of their BS !!!
MadCrow
(155 posts)Bernie said from the outset that (1) he would support the Democratic nominee; (2) go all the way to the convention; (3) that his main concern was the issues and (4) that his candidacy was just the beginning in changing our democracy for the benefit of all our citizens.
I disagreed with many of Hillary's supporters who kept insisting that Bernie drop out early on. Bernie persevered, got most of what he wanted into the Democratic party platform; proved that an individual candidate did not need Super Pacs to be successful; and then graciously conceded and endorsed Hillary and promised to do anything he could to help Hillary get elected and defeat Donald Trump.
It is true that some of his supporters were over zealous, and out of line in their conduct on the convention floor, but by the end of the evening the dissidents seemed to calm down. I think it was a good thing that so many of Bernie's supporters were permitted to speak and this allowed Bernie's loyal supporters to let release some of their frustration and disappointment. Of course there are going to be some malcontents, but I believe that by the end of convention, the Democratic Party will emerge united, strengthened and empowered to go out and DEFEAT Donald Trump.
Chathamization
(1,638 posts)We elect these delegates, but the way it's done almost no one pays attention since the focus tends to be on the presidential vote. Even if you have a preference, there's a very odd way to show it - usually by voting for less people than you can, or voting for delegates for a candidate you don't support. So if you support Sanders and can vote for 4 delegates, your best bet is probably to vote for 1-2 Sanders delegates and 1-2 Clinton delegates (same if you support Clinton). Though usually (at least from my experience) it's difficult to get enough information about the delegates to make a choice.
It's a bad system, and should probably be reformed.

I applaud that he is asking his supporters to be professional and lets defeat Trump, not ourselves. I am appalled at the people who still do not see that his vision and what we support for America is Democratic, progressive, and liberal...but instead want what we always seem to get.

(3,813 posts)as consistent as Bernie has been in his viewpoints from the early 60s till the present, I'm the same age as Bernie is and his viewpoints parallel mine. He experienced the fifties as I did and knows first hand what we have lost, that's why I am with him and his positions.
Never have I seen so many in the USA in favor of Fascism, now it's time to defeat Trump.

LiberalLovinLug
(14,175 posts)He lost because he didn't get enough delegates votes. And that had a lot to do with Hillarys early advantage in name recognition and SD's quick endorsements, MSM, and DWS
But IF he had won he would also have united the party just fine. He had the lowest negative rating of any of the final four of both parties.
But then I guess we'd find out how disruptive the Hillary or Bust would have been.

(7,572 posts)the convention...the raucous booing crowd just got louder and louder during the opening , and continued during the remarks made by Rep. Cummings.... Bernie better get his followers to at least show some courtesy and respect to all the speakers...... I do not remember any public negative outbursts by the Clinton supporters at the 2004 convention, and I do remember Hillary's remarkable grace and cooperative spirit in conceding to Obama.

I voted for Bernie and am very happy that I did. I wish he had won; I suspect if he ere the nominee he would have a fairly heft lead right now.
But, he didn't win. And if the price of all this noise is assisting Trump to become president, and seriously hurting all the people for whom Bernie speaks, I'll put a Clinton sticker on my car and do whatever I can to help her.
