2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe DNC leak is doing short term damage to Democrats. But...
There are a lot of signs that this is going to become a long term problem for Trump. Primarily, the media, in a shocking turn of events, senses that the Russian connection to the leaks is actually a lot more interesting and a lot bigger of a story.
So, from my point of view, we're taking a few hits now, but, on the plus side, DWS had been moved aside. And on the real long term front, Trump is going to have to address the Russian influence on his campaign over and over.
I'm sure it has come as a shock to a lot of people that the media appears to be prepping to actually do its job in this case and not just take the low hanging fruit and be happy.

(4,465 posts)All I hear them talking about are more emails , disunity, etcetc, ad infinitum.
It's easy...requires little effort...just get up there and blah blah blah
Where do you see them talking in any major way about Trump /Putin?
I heard Morning Joe discussed? But that is it so far, a few articles I have read, but essentially little else.

(6,437 posts)As I said, right now it is all about the leak itself, but there are a number of signs that there are people looking behind the front door on this.

(30,813 posts)The Russia connection poses a direct and severe threat to our nation and our democracy.
How could there even BE a bigger story?

It needs a big splashy front-page story to expose the corruption in the trump organization.
I found this article from the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/25/us/politics/donald-trump-russia-emails.html?smid=tw-share&_r=0 Excerpt:
In mid-June the company announced that the intruders appeared to include a group it had previously identified by the name Cozy Bear or APT 29 and been inside the committees servers for a year. A second group, Fancy Bear, also called APT 28, came into the system in April. It appears to be operated by the G.R.U., the Russian military intelligence service, according to federal investigators and private cybersecurity firms. The first group is particularly well known to the F.B.I.s counterintelligence unit, the C.I.A. and other intelligence agencies. It was identified by federal investigators as the likely culprit behind years of intrusions into the State Department and White House unclassified computer system.
Russian intelligence agencies went to great lengths to cover their tracks, investigators found, including meticulously deleting logs, and changing the time stamps of the stolen files.

(14,566 posts)While the Trump/Russia issue should preclude ANY candidate from the POTUS, it is breaking at horrible time.
Very good chance it passes the feeble minds of our hack media in the next week wo getting any air because of the much more pressing email issue from the DNC and the actual convention.
Horrible timing for this ...
