the other is democrats at each others' throats in the usual circular firing squad/witch burning posture.

Which do you think gets better ratings?

and the DNC convention is 4 days so limited life anyway as far as driving news cycles.

Trump's business ties to Russia and Putin? That has the potential to be much more interesting and salacious than party infighting. Not even close, really.

Trump is Putin's guy, when you boil it down to that, could be pretty effective.

that proves the insinuation, it requires working through elaborate and diverse components of the case -- as Josh Marshall does in about 8000 words in his excellent TPM piece which is driving the narrative. It's super tricky because Trump will surely sue anyone who makes an actual direct allegation on the basis of what is still a circumstantial case.

There's a witch burning to watch today, that's what the media lives for.

The Trump/Russia story could blow up in their face pretty disastrously if they publish without due diligence.

Democrats at each other's throats is easy and now.

We're in the first few minutes of the first quarter of what will be a long game.

Btw, Don JR has been quoted publicly bragging about their connections with Russian business, it's public knowledge Manafort has ties and Trump's taxes will resurface as an issue before this is done. What's in there re: Russia could be one reason he won't release.

I was the first person to post Marshall's story on DU last night, minutes after it came out.

Proof:

I think it is huge and potentially changes the election. But it is not an easy story to tell about a man prone to suing anyone who accuses him of anything. Lots of moving parts. Lots of background and context shot real estate and Kazakh oligarchs and the like.

Remember Dan Rather and the Bush TANG AWOL story? Backfired completely because it was a setup.

It will be open season on covering it. I'm not sure a smoking gun is necessary anyway. Just get it out there and let people draw their own conclusions. Hell I remember some saying Willard getting caught talking about the 47 percent wasn't a smoking gun that he didn't GAF about the middle class, but it still hurt him plenty. It'll never meet everyone's threshold. But it doesn't have to to do damage.

Don Jr. Bragging about their business dealings with Russia is public knowledge. the NYT is already comfortable enough with it to allow one of their columnists to write about it. This situation isn't analogous to Rather IMO.

that Trump is being manipulated directly by Russia.

You just listed the cases that need to be made. It's going to happen.
