2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWho should be the next DNC Chair?
I'm partial to Howard Dean, because not only his 50-state strategy but also his commitment to candidate neutrality. (He passed on voting in primaries to stay totally unbiased in his actions as well as his words.)
Other possibilities:
-- Former MD Gov Martin O'Malley
-- Sanders Spokesperson and Former OH State Sen. Nina Turner
-- Former MI Gov Jennifer Granholm
-- Obama campaign/White House staffers Valerie Jarrett, David Ploufe, David Axelrod
Who else should be on the list?

And the DNC chair should be a full time position. It was insane to have a member of congress running the DNC.

(889 posts)As someone else said, it should be someone who isn't currently in office.

(36,063 posts)elect one of their own, and keep the making of short lists out of the hands of the poo-bahs and superdelegates.

(7,113 posts)That approach would offer several advantages, such as avoiding persons with deeply engrained alliances on the national level.
However, for the little exercise in this thread, as with "fantasy football," the tendency is to gravitate to the household names.

(904 posts)But as for the DNC Chair...I think O'Malley would be an excellent choice.

(6,716 posts)Nina Turner? NO.
SaschaHM
(2,897 posts)Hell No. Former State Senator Nina Turner is out of a (political) job for a reason, let's not give her another one. DWS, to her credit, could win her own election.
tallahasseedem
(6,716 posts)Also, do you know she really only got the State Senator job by appointment? That AND the full term she did get, she ran unopposed. When she did run against someone, she got trounced by 30 points.
That says a lot!

(47,501 posts)DNC chair. It is hard to know how good other people would be. It is a rather unique position.
Edit to add - I just saw Dean on MSNBC and he said the chair has to take responsibility for what happened. From what he was saying, it sounds like he ran a pretty tight ship.

(21,794 posts)And in any case, I'm not comfortable having an active US House or Senate member being head of the DNC. A former legislator would be better, since he/she would not have to waste time or money working to ensure his/her re-election.

(3,226 posts)Whom ever it is they need to be clearly neutral and not hold any other job as well.
What I liked about Dean was his 50 state strategy, also we need to be more focused on local offices and Governorships. There is no reason we can not win every where DWS gave up on the south we should not have done that.

(129,096 posts)If Dems want to make TX blue again and solidify the Hispanic vote (at least the largest ethnic group of that constituency) that Trump has universally trashed, he would be good. You need a lot of energy to do that job and he is young.

(21,794 posts). . .he might be tapped for a Cabinet position in a Hillary Clinton Administration such as Health/Human Services or Surgeon General
JaneQPublic
(7,113 posts)I wanted him in Obama's cabinet, but apparently Rahm Emanuel (then Chief of Staff) hated his guts.
Dean certainly earned Hillary's consideration, considering his loyal service as her TV surrogate throughout this campaign.

Granholm would be good too.
The others are not political operatives and not well suited for the DNC chair IMO.

(42,862 posts)She's had plenty of time to calm down. She's not dumb... and she understands what's at stake. There's no reason for anyone who'd ever expect to have a career within the Democratic party to behave as if she was Susan Sarandon.
At this point, the only "career" she's going to have will be as a loudmouth foil on one of the cable news networks.

(13,340 posts)HRC is entitled (yes, I used that word) to a DNC chair that endorses her.

(42,862 posts)... too something. (I can't think of the right word that would be approved by a jury at this hour of the day.)
And she yells too much, and talks too fast.
I'd take a pass on Axelrod. He doesn't thrill me. (Maybe it's because he reminds me too much of Dr. Phil.)
