My proposed superdelegate rule.

Superdelegates don't get a vote on the first ballot. So if a candidate gets an outright majority of delegates, that candidate gets the nomination.

If no candidate has a majority, then it becomes a contested convention, and superdelegates get to vote in subsequent ballots. Why? Because once delegates get unbound, then they are now just individuals acting on their own opinions, and not the opinions of the voters who elected them. It's basically a committee of insiders choosing the candidate anyway. I'd rather have among those insiders Democrats who have been elected to major positions in government, or Democrats who have a long tradition with the Party. I don't see why convention delegates are better suited then, for example, sitting US Senators, to choose the nominee.

When you say 'majority', which number are we talking about? Elected delegates, or all delegates? CrowCityDem Jul 2016 #2

So no, I don't agree with this.

Leave the Super delegates as they are.

So superdelegates don't influence the outcome unless nobody gets a majority and it comes to a contested convention.
