NBC "early prediction": Obama will win popular vote by 1%-1.5%

He is slightly behind now, but NBC is saying that because many precincts from California haven't reported, Obama will probably take a slight lead in the final popular vote.

Looks like fewer than 120 million votes total will have been cast when it's all over. In a country of over 320 million people, this is an embarrassment. If more people voted, it would be more decisive than 1%.
