Top Donald Trump aide Paul Manafort says the GOP nominee has a special appeal for women whose "husbands can't afford paying for the family bills."
In a Thursday interview at the Republican National Convention, MSNBC's Chris Matthews asked Manafort how he planned to keep the Trump campaign's strategy of intensely criticizing Hillary Clinton from alienating women.
"It depends on which women you're talking about," Manafort said. "Many women in this country feel they can't afford their lives. Their husbands can't afford paying for the family bills."
"You said women are concerned about their husbands' income?" Matthews pressed.
Manafort grinned. "I can speak personally to that," he replied.

(3,709 posts)At my familys company, there are more female than male executives. Women are paid equally for the work that we do, and when a woman becomes a mother, she is supported, not shut out. Women represent 46 percent of the total U.S. labor force, and 40 percent of American households have female primary breadwinners.
In 2014, women made 83 cents for every dollar earned by a man. Single women without children earned 94 cents for each dollar earned by a man, whereas married mothers made only 77 cents. As researchers have noted, gender is no longer the factor creating the greatest wage discrepancy motherhood is. As president, my father will change the labor laws that were put in place at a time in which women were not a significant part of the workforce, and he will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all.
As the mother of three young children, I know how hard it is to work while raising a family, and I also know that I am more fortunate than most. American families need relief. Policies that allow women with children to thrive should not be novelties; they should be the norm. Politicians talk about wage equality, but my father has made it a practice at his company throughout his entire career. He will fight for equal pay for equal work, and I will fight for this too, right alongside of him.

(49,045 posts)Trump-Republican solution:
* 3 pieces of photo ID at 2 locations
* Background check
* Drug test if you make less than $60K on tax return
* No tax return? No child care! No chance to even look for a job!
* Check sent directly child care provider
* Child care provider must have been in business for over 20 years
* Child care provider must be on approved list.
* Church child care providers are automatically approved
And here is how the program will pay for itself:
* Husband works? no child care: you make enough already.
* Husband does not work? no child care: hubby can care for kids.
