AP sources: Clinton VP search focus is Kaine, Vilsack, Perez

This is encouraging because it means Perez is still in the running. He is definitely my top choice of these three. I would be very happy with him as the VP pick. As an employment attorney, I think he has done a great job at the Department of Labor.

Democrats familiar with the search say Clinton's campaign has focused in recent days on Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, a former governor, mayor and one-time Catholic missionary fluent in Spanish; Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, an ex-Iowa governor and longtime Clinton ally; and Labor Secretary Tom Perez, a progressive champion who would be the first Hispanic on a major-party ticket.

The Democrats cautioned that Clinton had not yet reached a final decision and was weighing a number of factors, including the person's readiness to be president, personal compatibility and ability to help her administration govern.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a favorite of liberals, remains in the mix and offers the campaign a fundraising juggernaut and the tantalizing prospect of an all-female ticket. But Warren is not expected to be the final choice, said the Democrats familiar with the process. They spoke on condition of anonymity to describe private discussions about the search process.

Becerra's seat is safe. It is in the LA area and is solidly Democrat. Also, governors don't appoint StevieM Jul 2016 #13

Since another article in the New York Times yesterday said she is looking for someone with strong national security credentials. That makes me sad, because she herself has such strong credentials in that area that the only reason she would feel the need to reinforce it is because she is a woman.

But at least he will probably be Speaker of the House some day.

As for the finalists, I like Vilsack the best.

we need him in the House even more. I would really hate for her to take a Dem away from the House or the Senate, especially if they are from a state where a republican governor would name their replacement. We need every seat we can get.

replacements for House seats. That only happens for vacancies in the Senate. For the House a special election is called.
