2016 Postmortem

Chris Christies speech last night at the RNC Convention made me want to join Ruth Ginsburg in moving to New Zealand. This country is getting more stupid by the day.
Exhibit A. Chris Christies case against Hillary Clinton. Christie at the onset stated that as a former US Attorney he was going to prosecute the case against Hillary Clinton using actual facts. Then he proceeded to make a mockery of our justice system by using a bunch of hyperbole and innuendo masquerading as facts and evidence to make his case, upon which he asked the vultures in search of red meat who were in attendance, to conclude whether Hillary was Guilty or Not Guilty.
For someone who is said to be seeking a position within a Trump administration, particularly the role of US Attorney General, it is unfathomable that he would make such a mockery of our Justice System. First, without having any factual knowledge of the evidence compiled and reviewed by the current Director of the FBI and a professional staff of dozens of skilled, seasoned attorneys and investigators, he begins stating that he knows that he would have been able to put together a case resulting in the indictment of HRC in Emailgate. Anyone who could make such a claim, without having seen or reviewed one piece of actual evidence should be disqualified from ever being considered for a job with the US Attorneys Office, much less the position of US Attorney General, because he has proven that he does not understand how our justice system in these United States of America works. He does not deserve to have a law license in this country nor ever get near a courthouse, or actual trial unless hes a defendant. (One can only hope cant we.) We do not indict people on feelings or gut instinct in America. We indict people on evidence, and that evidence must be able to stand up under scrutiny and cross examination in a court of law.
He then tells the ghastly ignorant people in his audience a series of partisian driven, fact-less statements surrounding some events which may or may not have involved Hillary Clinton and asked his ignorant audience to conclude whether Hillary is Guilty or Not-Guilty.
Personally, I thought it was irresponsible when I saw that Polling companies were conducting polls asking ignorant people with no knowledge of actual evidence whether they thought HRC should have been charged or not charged for committing a crime regarding Emailgate, since that is not how our justice system works. Particularly since the Director of the FBI charged with investigating the case, and who actually HAD reviewed the evidence in the case, and who HAD knowledge of the applicable laws involved, along with his team of professional attorneys and investigators had concluded, unanimously, that no crime had been committed, and that no professional attorney with knowledge of the facts would ever bring forth an indictment against HRC based on the facts in this case.
And for the record, when I use the term ignorant, above, I am not trying to disparage members of the GOP or people who happen to have been participants in a Poll. The term ignorant, means: lacking in knowledge or training, or lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact. None of those people who have passed judgement on HRC regarding Emailgate, Benghazi, or any of those other crimes alluded to by Christie, have any factual knowledge or evidence for which to indict HRC, so they need to just tone down the rhetoric. I would expect a former US Attorney and/or US Attorney General wannabe to know better. And as a member of the Bar, Christie has an obligation to this nation to inform its citizenry, not participate in aiding in its ignorance.

(10,878 posts)The manipulators in power on the right knew the only way to keep power would be to convince the middle class that they were the "good" Americans.
Educated people are bad...they are elitist, snobby, foreign-ish, and other in every regard.
Having little to no education and no intellectual curiosity is a good thing.
That makes you a good, normal, God fearing American.
And, that's how they built the base of the Repub party.
Now, those people have by and large revolted in favor of a narcissistic tv hero.
He speaks to them on their level. Approx 8th grade level.
If it wasn't so tragic, it would be hilarious.
