2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI saw Donny Trump Jr. this morning on the CBS Morning show.
He was talking fast and not saying much of any value. My wife said, "He's that guy who gets you drunk and has sex with you after you pass out at the frat house."
Hmm...

I missed that.

(47,496 posts)I wasn't paying too close attention, though I thought it was excessively effusive. I do recall thinking that he was a far better speaker than I had expected and wondered if he might not be considering a political career some day (god forbid).
She was right though, it was the best speech of the convention, but that is a pretty low bar.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)she is, of course. It is, after all, the Republican National Convention. Besides, he did do very well in that speech, for a conservative speaking to conservatives. She could tell the truth effusively without doing harm.
Btw, when Trump falls, his family's public persona will go down with him. Although scandals may arise from his legal troubles, when he simply loses in November the party is going to turn on him, big! Few really want him, and his name is going to be toxic, and "the star that was born tonight," Jr., is going to just a shooting star. Hubris.

(47,496 posts)I know what some of these people like Rachel WANT to say, but as journalists they do have to appear unbiased if they are to be considered credible. Also if they want anyone on the right to talk to them.
Maybe Junior can get a show on Fox News?
You're right, the party will quickly distance themselves from everything Trump and hope voters will forget this nightmare.

Fascinating, but she was too busy to go into it. Of course, Ailes helped most current Republican candidates develop national renown by having them work for Fox. It may just be that Fox won't be among Jr's options, though.
PatSeg
(47,496 posts)news network is actually an advocate for a political party. There was a time when that was not only unthinkable, but illegal. Now it is becoming common place all over the world. One can hope that the Internet can offset it.
Maybe Daddy could buy Junior and the other kids their own network, though I don't think anyone believes he has enough money for that.

(58,785 posts)Btw, Trump's first Trump U trial starts November 28 (after the election), and he'll be required to disclose his net worth.
PatSeg
(47,496 posts)he deserves. Unfortunately, that will not help the many people he has hurt over the years, but maybe this will be the beginning of the end of his bogus Trump empire.

(3,335 posts)who had been on "The Apprentice" had been coached in acting and speaking during the time they were part of that show. As a result, he said, they all knew how to "play to the camera" and were all comfortable being in front of a camera. He said that he expected Don Jr to do well. I watched his performance with that in mind, so I guess I was less than impressed. I thought he was speaking rather fast, but I figured that they must have been speeding up the program in or to get to all of those who were speaking in the Prime Time time slot, rather than nervousness.

(3,626 posts)because of his clear undertone of anger and meanness (I was in another room and, frankly, didn't know who was speaking.) When I went to change the channel, having had my dose of toxic waste, I realized who he was. Even speaking so glowingly of his father, he couldn't hide his true, entitled, nasty character.

I'm so tired of hearing the media talk about what great kids Trump has raised.
Thanks for posting...

This should be a campaign poster about the Trump family. Caption:

(47,496 posts)He is a "manly man". Actually he is worse than worthless.
<Donald Jr. continued, Hunting forces a person to endure, to master themselves, even to truly get to know the wild environment. Actually, along the way, hunting and fishing makes you fall in love with the natural world. This is why hunters so often give back by contributing to conservation.>

So to fall in love with nature, you should go out and kill it? When I see something beautiful in nature, my first impulse is to shoot it with a camera, not kill it and then pose with the dead carcass.

(3,335 posts)was fawning over what good kids he had. And he replied that "it was all Ivana's doing", "she's a wonderful mother", he said. I knew that was probably the case since he was so busy working and screwing around that it couldn't have been him, but kudos to him for acknowledging that.

(5,270 posts)He claimed he was too busy to know much about her speech, the words in her speech were commonly used, it was unimportant, etc. in response to David Muir's questioning if an apology to Michelle Obama was in order.
His insincere, glib explanations were as slick as his hair.

(146,317 posts)Brylcreem and Vitalis, along with some others. I'm seeing more and more men with wet-look hair these days and Donny Trump, Jr. is one of those.
I was surprised. As a 70-year-old guy, I remember using those products when I was a young guy, but that ended, and the dry look was more popular. Apparently, in some circles, looking like a grease-ball is back in style. It's not a look I prefer for myself, and my wife, says, "ick" when she sees the slick pompadours some of the millennial set are sporting these days.
"Greasy kid stuff" is what we called that crap.

The Trump brand has been significantly damaged. If Clinton wins in the kind of landslide many envision, I would bet having the last name Trump will fast become a political liability if it hasn't already.
Just like the name Bush has become.
