Day 3 of the RNC Convention - The House Empties

Later in the evening yesterday, empty seats began to increase in number after the roll call took place. Tonight, the excitement's over. If you watch, look at the crowd. You'll see that it has shrunk even more. Who can get excited about a speech by Mike Pence? How many more times can GOOPers shout, "Lock her up!"

Why bother to go? All the business of the convention is over. So, lots and lots of the convention-goers will opt to spend the last two days of their trip to Cleveland looking for something to do that is actually interesting. Good luck to them with that quest. Many delegates are staying in hotels some distance away, so they'll miss the excitement and revelry that is Cleveland at night.

Those staying in Cleveland proper may also find difficulty in locating night life opportunities. That's not to say that the city doesn't have its clubs and bars. Of course it does. But, they aren't much different from the ones at home, wherever home might be. There's always an opportunity for a little philandering, of course, but the attendees are all, you know, Republicans. Everyone knows that they don't engage in extramarital sporting, after all.

Boredom is the biggest threat to the enjoyment of the last two days of this adventure in political unreality. What will the delegates and others find to do of an evening in Cleveland? Maybe the convention will still be the most excitement available to them. Maybe listening to Mike Pence is enough to stir the emotions. That's just sad, though...

Dunno about that.
I hope that was meant to be satire. Traditionally, during a GOP convention, the businesses of strip clubs and escort services rise sharply.

We were in Ohio City neighborhood yesterday afternoon and walked right into a very popular restaurant. There were more police on the streets than people. Ohio City is just across the bridge from the Convention.
Local people are staying away from anything close to downtown. Downtown companies have either given their employees the week off or work from home. We saw a number of business with signs saying they were closed this week.

Parking is $40 and higher.

Yet the local media is touting the economic impact of this clown show.

Some years back, a local station interviewed a high level prostitute (4 figures minimum). She compared the GOP conventions to the democratic ones. A lot more demand by the GOP, and they (ahem) come much faster, allowing for more business. A good percentage also fell on their knees, before performing, grabbed their bibles and begged their lord and their mommy to forgive them. They also tip well, she said, because they hoped she and her coworkers would remain silent.

in more ways than one. Even Republican strategist Nicolle Wallace said it was a result of "incompetence." From Melania Trump's plagiarized speech to the Colorado and Alaskan revolts, it showed poor planning and sloppy vetting.

Word was, most of the large parties that often go on at the convention were canceled because of fear of no attendance and concern about being associated with Trump. So the delegates really have nothing to do.

That the crowds in the convention are much smaller than they appear on tv. The convention all is mostly empty and most delegates haven't even been showing up. Basically it sounds like there are just a few dozen psychotically rabid Trump supporters at the convention and no half way sane Republicans this year.
