Trump is like the guy at the bar

who is mouthy when he comes in and gets worse after a couple of beers. You kind of know him because he's a regular. You hang out near him because he has a good joke or story, something that would never happen to you. He talks over the people near him, cuts down any opinion you might have, and laughs at you if you get mad, and says something funny that is supposed to make you feel better. Everyone else laughs, so you kind of smile, so it doesn't get unpleasant, but you still feel uncomfortable. You love coming to this bar, so even if he is there, you'll still come, because its your hangout. You have friends he treats the same way, but they act like it doesn't bother them, so you wonder if you are too sensitive and try to be more accepting. But you never really like the way he acts.
When Bush was running for President, the news media had the ridiculous question 'Who would you rather drink a beer with?' Like Bush would drink a beer with some supporter that hadn't been picked and patted down. None of us, unless you are related or work for a candidate, will ever know the candidate. We can form an opinion from what we see on tv. So my point: why does anyone want to vote for somebody who's such a slob? -- not messy, a mess.

But, I would offer ...

Everyone else laughs, so you kind of smile, so it doesn't get unpleasant, but you still feel uncomfortable. Those friends, feel the exact same way as you ... but since we never/rarely ask them straight out how they are feeling (read: give them reason to believe their feelings are valid), everyone pretends that everything is okay. "After all ... we don't have to go home with 'the guy at the bar' and he's kind of entertaining, even as he is insulting."

in neighborhood bars. People get used to him and often tune him out after awhile. He pretty much says the same things over and over again, always very loudly. He knows pretty much nothing, but has an opinion on everything.

The only difference between him and Trump is money!
