2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHas anyone checked in on the "Hillary is no better than Trump" gang lately??
Now that Trump is officially the nominee, and after last night's terrifying display of hatred, fear, paranoia, and xenophobia, has anyone checked in on our dearly departed former DU posters to see how they're holding up?
It must be a tough day for anyone seriously trying to keep a straight face while arguing that there's no difference between the two candidates (or the two parties), but you certainly have to give them credit for trying. At this point, I'm not sure how if it's worth devoting any more time to that crowd, but if anyone has any insight feel free to share.

(16,399 posts)Gary Johnson is a libertarian. If you think that is comparable to Bernie Sanders, you really should not be voting.

(95,337 posts)Bernie has endorsed Hillary so to me these Bernie supporters are essentially saying 'Fuck You' to Bernie.
And Jill Stein is an asshole. What little respect I had for her I lost after Stein's Mothers Day comment insinuating Hillary as a bad mother. I'd vote for Trump before I'd vote for Jill Stein and that's saying a lot! Thankfully I can vote for Hillary instead - and that is a vote I have no difficulty in making!

(11,949 posts)Even though their Lord and Savior has endorse Hillary. The ones arguing that the they should follow Bernie's advice run the risk of being banned. Supporting Stein is still acceptable, but many of them are all in for Trump.
I am glad many of the DU members kept their names over there. I do not keep up with that stuff and have not been here long enough to really get to know members. But plenty of member here do know who is who and when they come trolling here they get called out.
I predict that after Hillary wins in a landslide we will have an influx of new members who sound somewhat familiar. And will soon start criticizing her administration.

(11,949 posts)It is surprising the ease one can discern concern overlaid with glee.
They just cannot help themselves.
Which is why I predict after the election there will be an influx of several hundred new members who really seem to know the ropes.

Little do they realize this happens every time the Dem nomination is contested. Anyone with more than a single brain cell in their head should be able to figure out why.
They are coming here expecting to see no one here each time and are clearly upset when that isnt the case.

(1,945 posts)The way to help people who don't agree with you is not to insult them, concern troll them, or say you had better do....
I think what is instructive from the Republican party convention is when you shut out debate and create fake rules to look unified while people in your party actually disagree; everyone can tell you are still divided.
When Hillary takes on the mantle at the convention, will posters still be kicking Bernie in the teeth for not being 100% on board with the issues Hillary chooses to de-emphasize for general election audience?
The problem is some democrats are non conformists on specific platform issues. Is the Democratic party big enough to tolerate more than one take on the issues?
Squinch
(50,955 posts)posters still be kicking her in the teeth for not being 100% on board with the issues where she does not agree with the piners?
The problem is that ALL Democrats are non-conformists on specific platform issues. Clinton has made a number of significant concessions to that fact. Are the piners big enough to realize that no one gets everything they want, especially not the primary loser, and that she has been perfectly reasonable with her concessions to them?
The answer to that, by their posts here and at their site where they are honest about their positions, is a clear "no."

(1,729 posts)They're defending Melania at JPR by accusing Michele Obama of copying some book for her speech simply because she used the terms "your word is your bond" and "you work hard." Really???? those are terms lots of people use. Melania went far beyond that to copy sentence structure and style and used many of the same terms.
What kind of progressives defend the far right wingers first? They ask why some of us are more irritated with them than we are with Trump. Here's why. Because they should know better.

(2,872 posts)it's safe to say I don't know what I am anymore. Will I ever trust Clinton, highly unlikely, but voting anyone else is tantamount to shooting myself in the head and being done with it. Demsrule86
(68,586 posts)I told the Obama haters...you want a liberal president, elect a liberal Congress and don't abandon the president the first time you don't get what you want (2010). We need a house and a Senate...I don't know if we will get the House ...the Senate probably. But you have to be realistic. All this hysteria over Hillary's position on TPP...Obama ran on trade agreements...I voted for him in spite of this...you have to pick the best candidate and hope for the best. But not voting only plays into the GOP hands especially in the off-year elections which is how we lost governorships and the House.
