Open carry? Nowhere near the GOP Convention venue.

Much has been made about the open-carry of firearms at the GOP convention. No doubt it will go on, but not anywhere near the venue itself. The Secret Service has designated a zone around that facility where no firearms will be allowed. No knives. No metal-tipped umbrellas. Pretty much nothing that could be used as a weapon.

Republican Convention-goers are going to be in for a surprise when they hit the first metal-detector control points if they think they'll be carrying at the convention, concealed or openly. It ain't happening. Right-wing gun rights advocates are going to have to attend without their "precious" if they want to be on the floor of this convention, or any other convention.

Out on the street? Sure, as long as you aren't in the "zone." But, even there, open carry is going to get you questioned by one of the thousands of cops imported from all over the country to provide security. Best to leave your guns at home, folks, and leave being armed to the pros in Cleveland this week.

Sorry for the inconvenience...
