Watch What Pence Does Tomorrow

Trump may not want to share a news cycle with terrorism victims but there is one move that will be very telling. Mike Pence has a deadline to file for his reelection as governor of Indiana at Noon tomorrow EST. If he doesn't file for reelection, he is likely the VP pick. If he does then he isn't. It is that simple. Trump may be trying to keep people in suspense, like a commercial break for a reality tv show but the real world goes on. Watch what Whitey Pence does. It will tell us everything we need to know about who's career is going to go down in flames with Trump.

Indiana law prohibits him from running in both elections. If he files before the deadline to run for governor in Indiana, he can't run for VP.

if he keeps his name on the ballot for governor and then gets nominated for veep, does that simply make his state-level candidacy invalid?

i can't see indiana law having jurisdiction to prevent him from running for federal office across the country.

11. so he could still do it -- but it would forfeit the governorship to the democrats ;)

well, i guess the republicans could still recruit someone else to run, technically as an independent, or at least some party other than republican since the "republican" slot is taken, i guess.

much the way lieberman ran for re-election in 2006 after losing the democratic party primary.

13. Easy. If his name is already on the ballot it stays on until he files to remove.

Any position he files while his name is still on the ballot is rejected.

There was a bill proposed, but it failed.

He can file and then withdraw, though.

12. Yes but then no republican would be running for that seat

Filing deadline is tomorrow and if he files, no other republicans will. But if he drops out, there will still be no republicans running and it would go to the dem by default.

Under Indiana Law, the GOP will have 30 days after Pence drops out to replace him on the ballot. And there are several candidates who cannot WAIT until he drops out. Pence is largely disliked by the leaders of his own party here in Indiana.

This morning then went and ran for vice president, the GOP would be unable to run another candidate for governor, correct ? Theoretically of course, because his name would be mud with the party, but still?

Also, given how badly Pense is doing in the governor's race, is it fairly likely that the GOP would be able to replace him at that late date with a more viable candidate?

Wondering how his leaving would affect the Democratic candidate's chances.
