GOP: Old, white and in trouble, poll says

Reporting from Washington—
The Republican primary campaign so far hasn’t produced a nominee, but it has had one clear outcome – worsening the GOP’s image among the young, the better educated and the non-white.

That finding, from the Pew Research Center survey released Wednesday, could be a serious handicap for the party in elections this fall and in years to come, said Pew’s director, Andrew Kohut.

“The Republicans really are the party of white people, and especially older white people,” Kohut told reporters as the poll was released. “They’ve done nothing in this campaign to make themselves be more favorably viewed” among other parts of the electorate.

and this article is from the Chicago Tribune which normally only gives the opinions of old white people. (Ok not completely but you know what I mean).

We still gotta get out there, or it's 2010 all over again.

They will be out there in force with their Diebold and ESS vote "counting" machines, and Red states
still chomping at the bit to try voter disenfranchisement schemes on students and minorities.

No poll will get US to the polls, so we still have to be active, not just reactive.

Born in Kenya. And no amount of data will change their mind. Keep in mind that a lot of these people were pot smoking hippies in their youth.

10. The characterization of the republicans offered is incomplete.

"The Republicans really are the party of white people, and especially older white people."

But they also have purity tests requiring them to be straight (duh) and evangelical Christian (duh-er), and they are mostly male.

So the republicans are more accurately described as "the party of old, white, straight, evangelical Christian men." Now THERE'S a winning ticket!

11. The Byproduct Of Living In The Bubble...
Fri Mar 16, 2012, 09:12 AM
Mar 2012

Over the past 20 years the rushpublicans have created their fantasy world...honed and nurtured by Faux Noise and hate radio. It's had no room or tolerance for any opposing views and any questions were viewed as an attack...thus further detaching the party from reality and narrowing its base. It's alienated many different groups in its zeal to find "purity" and further escaped into the bubble. For years the party "leaders" could control and direct what these people did but with the teabagger movement its opened up deep fractures within this inept and corrupt party. Rushbpublicans now only campaign, they can't govern. They'll throw themselves off a cliff to show just how "conservative" they are...living up to phony "ideals" that never existed in the first place.

The fun in the upcoming months is to see how the rushpublicans try to square their circles...or if they can. Whomever wins the nomination will have to find a way to "energize" the 2/3rds of the party that rejected them...and then try to attract enough "moderates" and "independents" to build a winning coalition. Or will those whose candidate lost either stay home or find a third party choice. And then...what will they do if and when they get their asses handed to them in November.

The damage being inflicted to the rushpublican party are lethal. It's not just the clown car demolition derby for the nomination but all the damage done by teabaggers in the Congress and in state legislatures that hopefully will energize a large turn out for Democrats this fall. This can happen if we keep focused...make sure Democratic candidates are supported with money and elbow grease. We can inflict a big blow that can rip the rushpublicans apart...
