Fallin: Trump ‘trying to campaign as a racial healer’
Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin (R), a potential Donald Trump running mate, said on Sunday that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee is “trying to campaign as a racial healer.”
“I think the whole nation needs to work together, and certainly anyone that’s our nominee, whether it’s Donald Trump or whether it’s Secretary [Hillary] Clinton, we all need to work toward unity as a nation,” Fallin said initially when asked on CNN’s “State of the Union” how Trump will be able to be a racial healer in light of his past remarks.
“And understand that people are scared. They want save homes, they want safe streets, they want safe communities, they don’t want to be profiled, they don’t want to be discriminated against. Everyone wants to be treated equal with equal justice for all,” she added. When pressed about Trump specifically, Fallin said she thinks the billionaire is “trying to campaign as a racial healer.”
“I think that has been part of his message. If you watch what he said this week, he talked about how devastating this was for Dallas, how we need to respect our law enforcement, how we need to pray for those who are killed and those who are injured,” she added, referring to the five Dallas police officers killed last week.
