2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid Obama pick UNC because NC is a swing state?
Doesn't he know that most voters in North Carolina can't stand the Tar Heels?
Not as bad as picking Duke but still tone deaf.
I thought his campaign was run by professionals.

(2,657 posts)ESPN a few times Obama did his picks and he always went with NC. I think he just likes the team.

Who does the most successful NC politician align himself with?
State.
Jim Hunt was frequently seen dressed in red.

(685 posts)I would not even have them as winning the tournament. We're on the way back but I will be pleased to see us make it to the third round.

(34,857 posts)Had Obama picked NCState, you could make the claim it was entirely a political pick. But I believe UNC is a #1 seed and many people feel they can win this thing, especially with Syracuse without their best player.

(16,064 posts)would base their vote on who a person would pick to win a freaking game.
If people would pay even half as much attention to politics and what is happening in this country as the do to the mind numbing world of sports we wouldn't be in this mess.

(685 posts)Carolina won't make it past the third round. Hell State (11th round seed) should have beat them in the ACC tournament if it wasn't for those damn officials.
ABC - Anyone but Carolina

(685 posts)That was either a block or a charge (charge by the consensus of 90% of sports people). No way that was a no call though. Of course it was Carolina in the final 10 secs so the refs swallowed their whistles as usual.

(25,415 posts)NC is a good team, why wouldn't he pick them? I have never been able to stand NC being a Uconn fan (I'm from CT) but filling out brackets is about who you think will win.

And I live in NC. Not sure where you get that most voters here can't stand the Tar heels. What planet do you live on?

Though I do know a lot of people who like Duke.
The one major team that nobody seems too crazy about... at least around the peidmont-triad area is State.
I'm sure they're great and all, but not a very popular team in NC when compared to Duke or Carolina.
Edit: I did not read the entire thread before posting this and now realize the original poster is joking. Makes more sense now.

They're still the best team in the state though
taterguy
(29,582 posts)The Heels have 4 guys that'll probably make it to the NBA.
The Bobcats have a dozen, even though a couple of those would probably only make it to the Bobcats roster.
Oh wait, earlier in this thread I said Charlotte wasn't really part of NC.
Nevermind.

(18,402 posts)Doesn't mean they'll win, but it's not like it was an odd choice.
That said, what's wrong if he picked them (an already favored team) to boost his chances there? I say "by whatever means necessary." Why should he pick, say, Kentucky if he has no chance of "making friends" there anyway?

(29,582 posts)The school is perceived as being elitist and until recently sucked up too much of the state's secondary education budget.
Don't you remember the war over the ECU Med School?
People are still bitter about that.
