FBI director says he's no longer a registered Republican

Even though he has been a registered Republican for most of his adult life, FBI Director James Comey testified Thursday that he is no longer a registered member of the GOP.

"Although our politics are different — I gather you're a Republican — that correct?" Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) asked Comey in prefacing his remarks.

Comey responded, "I have been a registered Republican for most of my adult life, not registered any longer."

The FBI director, who previously served as deputy attorney general in George W. Bush's administration before President Barack Obama appointed him to his current position, donated to the presidential campaigns of John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012.

Director Comey said, "...not registered any longer."

Can this be read that he is not registered to vote?

Looked at the state of the GOP with clear and sane eyes, and left the party.

At first, I assumed, as you pointed out, that he was saying he's no longer registered as a Republican. The phrasing he used was awkward and when you parse his sentence, it could be interpreted that he's no longer registered. Just a brain fart on my part. Sorry.

I gather he lives in VA, where, as you said, we do not register by party, so Comey's statement is pointless. He's still a Republican.

shot at both Trump and Sanders who have been peddling that line. He seemed to want to shut that down, so he must not personally relate to it. That line really is a total slur against government employees, as well as a slur against anyone it's used against. I can see Comey rejects it. Good for him.

edit: plus the GOP is now completely batshit, so I can see how so many can't justify being a part of it anymore.
