Related: About this forumSanders accidentally visits GOP lunch
It's been a while since Bernie Sanders has attended the weekly Senate Democratic lunch in the Capitol.
So long, in fact, he forgot where to go Tuesday and headed -- with his large Secret Service detail in tow -- into the Republican lunch instead.
He quickly realized his mistake and turned around. When a reporter noted, "wrong room," Sanders replied, "Thank you" as he made his way to the Democratic gathering.

(4,311 posts)I didn't take it as a criticism. But I understand people are still a bit tender from the horrible primaries.
Not the OP, obviously, and don't know his/her intentions in posting.

(25,479 posts)I would suggest that it probably doesn't fit in the current state of DU and "tame analysis" is probably a bit of a misnomer.
The admins have been closing some pre-new-rules threads that were bumped after a couple of days that don't fit the new parameters. I seem to recall that Skinner noted that they were doing so in an ATA thread or one of the announcements threads.

I'm all for the civility part of the current rules....But I don't think all discussion and debate of the differences should be verboten.

(4,311 posts)It was pre-new rules so was not against TOS at that time, but it is now (just a few phrases, not the whole thing obviously).
I didn't think this OP portrayed him as doddering. God knows I'm 30 years younger and I still can't remember why I walked into a room half the time!

(47,803 posts)But that aside...
As I said elsewhere, I'm all for the civility part of the new rules...but not stifling differences of opinion.
No matter. I'm just going to make myself scarcer and spent much less time on DU and more time on real world pursuits, like my job, again.

If there's any criticism of Sanders in this story, it has nothing to do with his age.

(11,607 posts)I didn't read the whole article, but from the excerpt posted here at DU I wasn't offended by it. I thought it was funny.
Plus, who says we can't defend Bernie? I thought we just couldn't criticize Hillary in a way that isn't constructive?

(92,394 posts)jury systems is setup, an Alert is based on a limited set of selections. The person who does the alert selects the item they believe is in violation. The juror is then asked if they believe the alerted comment matches the violation, which is explicitly stated. It either is or it isn't. Since the juror is ruling on a specific rule, it reduces the chance for personal bias. It either satisfies that specific rule or it doesn't.
The weakness is that there might be a category that should be a rule, that isn't. I would suspect that if a case can be made where more rules should added, the administrators would be receptive
My only point is, it is better to move forward under the new rules

It's just a cute little funny story. Nothing negative about Bernie included.

(11,175 posts)My main reaction to the post is that it's monumentally silly. How about "Sanders goes to Senate cafeteria and means to order chicken salad sandwich but the server mishears him and gives him a chicken leg instead"? or maybe even "Sanders reaches for his cell phone in his left pocket forgetting that he'd put it back in his right pocket"? The world wants to know!
Of course, under old rules or new, "monumentally silly" isn't a basis for a hide. I decided that it wasn't Sanders-bashing. Part of the reason it isn't is precisely that it's so monumentally silly. It would not serve to lower any reader's opinion of Sanders unless the reader were devoid of common sense.

I'm exactly 20 years younger than he is and have not been running my ass off campaiging all over the country, but, yes, I have also walked into the men's bathroom recently, and it wasn't a political statement, just a mistake .

(25,618 posts)Before he bought his own car, my husband occasionally borrowed one of his company's cars on weekends. Generic, white, mid-sized cars that all look alike to me. One morning we're off on a road trip and decide to stop at the grocery store around the corner. I run in to get snacks and beverages and run out, open the door of the generic, white, mid-sized car and start to get in, only to see a totally different husband. He looked terrified, yelled "NO NO NO, WRONG CAR!" Like I wouldn't have noticed if he didn't point it out to me. My husband said he saw me approaching the wrong car but was powerless to stop what was happening.
The other time it was twilight and I was waiting outside the apartment for my husband to pick me up. So when a generic, white, mid-sized car pulled up in front of me, I went for the door. Again, wrong husband inside. Luckily it wasn't a stranger this time, just one of the neighbors who had pulled up in order to back into his parking space. After that I more careful about launching myself at cars without checking who is driving.
