Speaking to a group of top social conservative evangelical Christian leaders at a gathering in New York City, Trump said, we dont know anything about Hillary in terms of religion.
Now, shes been in the public eye for years and years, and yet theres no theres nothing out there, Trump said. Theres like nothing out there. Its going to be an extension of Obama but its going to be worse, because with Obama you had your guard up. With Hillary you dont, and its going to be worse.
As The Hills report noted, the behind-closed-doors meeting was not open to the public or to journalists, but one faith leader recorded Trumps comments and posted them online.

(58,785 posts)media coverage of his comments or glance at her record by citizens will point up comparison of her strong Christian faith and his lack of it.
Those who soak this stuff up were always out of reach, but his focusing attention on it is likely to check off an item for lots of others who didn't know anything about her religious background. I suspect lots of possible swing voters tend to believe the right-wing propaganda that leftists are all atheists.

Facts don't matter to this moron OR to his supporters. Supposition is good enough to make them hate someone they want to hate.

US Constitution, Article 6, third clause:
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

(27,995 posts)the only part of the constitution that they're interested in is the 2nd Amendment. And they don't fully understand that one either.

(62,444 posts)The government may not impose a religious qualification for office, but voters can certainly impose one for their vote.
If someone doesn't want to vote for a candidate who does or does not subscribe to any particular religious belief, then they are free to do that.
I'm sure there are plenty of folks who would not vote for a candidate on the basis of one religious belief or another.
I don't vote for people who think the world is 5,000 years old, for example. I don't vote for people who believe the apocalypse is near and that the fastest route to getting Jesus back is launching nuclear weapons. I don't vote for people whose religious beliefs are inordinately concerned with whom I love, or how we physically express that to each other. I don't vote for people whose religion apparently includes a sanctuary in everyone else's pants.
There are all sorts of religious beliefs which, if held by a candidate, would disqualify them from getting my vote.
