Obama's approval rating up to 50 percent: Reuters/Ipsos poll

By Samuel P. Jacobs

WASHINGTON | Tue Mar 13, 2012 6:31pm EDT

(Reuters) - For the first time since early July, more Americans approve of the job President Barack Obama is doing than disapprove, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll that shows his approval rating now at 50 percent.

The poll, taken March 8-11 on the heels of reports that 227,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy in February, indicates that Obama's rating has risen by 2 percentage points during the past month. The percentage of Americans who disapprove of the Democratic president was 48 percent, down from 49 percent in February.

Some other polls have shown a recent dip in Obama's approval rating, and linked that to rising gasoline prices.

I suspect the ones with Obama down are bogus. Big media wants a dogfight to capture more eyeballs.

past couple of days. Everybody's talking about it. I mean everybody. Even Rev Al talked about it on his show. It would help to have a reputable pollster on to dig down into the numbers in the CBS & WP/ABC polls, and talk about the methodology that got them there.
It would help to know why there's such disparity.

This makes the ABC and CBS polls look suspicious, obviously. Gallup had Obama at 49% yesterday and PPP had him doing well in NC and PA. It is total BS.

I'm naturally suspicious anyway, but the fact that those two polls showed such a significant drop just didn't seem plausible to me.

Doesn't fit the narrative that Obama is LOSING THE SUPPORT OF INDEPENDENT VOTERS.

Of the people polled, 51.1% were Dems, 38.8% Repubs. My opinion would be that none of the polls mean a thing right now and this is not something we should celebrate. This will be a tough, close election and we better be ready for it. Forget the polls.....raise money....get the word out.....show up on election day.

For example, when you look at the crosstabs of both the ABC and CBS polls, which trumpeted a big drop in support for Obama, you'll find both polls have a smaller percentage of Dems than they had last month - by a couple of percentage points.

But instead of noting the changed weighting in the stories, the media just goes on about how much President Obama's approval has dropped.

The dishonesty in the reporting of polls is ridiculous. Which is why they're useless. All of them.
