So I'm driving down the street with a Republican today

(long story)

As you might imagine, he's an extremely moderate Republican, so I sounded him out on his thoughts about the clown car.

"I can't stand Mitt Romney."

There followed some discussion about overprivileged rich white people and their attitudes.

"I hate Ann Romney worse than her husband. Did you know that his original running mate for Lt. Gov. of Massachusetts was an openly gay Republican? And Mitt was okay with that. But Ann got him thrown off the ticket, because she wanted to be First Lady someday, and she figured being associated with him would damage his chances."

No, I did not know that.

If they support the GOP for any reason, at any level - they support the idea that homosexuals are simply subhuman perverts, and they support policies that would outlaw homosexuality, make it legal to marginalize them, harass them, "re-educate" them, and assault & murder them.

If the GOP gains complete power, it wouldn't be long before they set up concentration camps.

There's no such thing as a "moderate Republican". There hasn't been for a very long time.

As it happens, he's a Log Cabin Republican; he mentioned that the guy Dog on Car snubbed went on to head LCR.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Guerriero#Governor_Swift

In May 2001 Guerriero accepted the position of deputy chief of staff to acting Massachusetts Governor Jane M. Swift. On January 3, 2002 Swift named Guerriero her running mate.[4] In March when Governor Swift made the announcement that she pulling out of the race for Governor, she openly supported his continued run as Lieutenant Governor on the Republican ticket.

When Dog on Car Bigfooted Jane "None Too" Swift out of the race, Guerriero was still the LG candidate. Until I Only Drive A Couple Of Cadillacs stepped in.
