(11,949 posts)Bernie to your list.
When history is written I think people will see he changed the party more than had he won. He really has changed the discussion and I think the party is more changed than we realize.
So why did I not vote for him? I think the hard driving personality and beliefs that made his amazing run possible are traits that serve a president poorly. And I think had he won he could have hurt his cause in the end. Our best presidents have been pragmatist with a cause. Even Bernie's biggest supporters cannot clame he is a pragmatist.
Because just like FDR had to be ruthless to implement his policies there will come a time when we need that trait again.
I know I have just set myself up to be vilified by both sides. But I truly feel this way.
Have a nice evening.

(15,805 posts)He has yet to actually come out and endorse Hillary. MSNBC just showed a video of him speaking at a rally in DC where he said, "When I'm President...", and then proceeded to talk about immigration. Clearly the man is still campaigning and has no intention of conceding at this time.

(11,949 posts)But he made it clear, and has from the beginning that he wants all votes to count. I truly thinks he would be betraying his supporters in DC to pack it in now.
I do not need to see him genuflect to Hillary. He has earned more respect than that.
At the end of the day I suspect his speech at the convention highlighting the Democratic message and strongly endorsing Hillary will be the most remembered of the convention.
And even though I support Clinton there is no denying that Bernie has changed this party.
Have a nice evening.

(1,233 posts)Right now, he doesn't seem to want to be.
Today's speech was ill advised. Without a doubt, President Obama told him that he planned to endorse Hillary today. He also likely told him about Biden's plan, and Warren's.
Bernie gave his speech anyway, and threw in the comment thanking the President for not putting his thumb on the scale. I think that was a passive-aggressive attempt at dissuading the President from endorsing Hillary.
Bernie has done some wonderful things, but he hasn't been himself lately. I hope he chooses a less bitter path soon.
