2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow Hillary Clinton won California
No Clinton has ever lost the state of California and Hillary Clinton was determined not to break that streak.
For five days leading up to the states primary, the Democratic presidential candidate campaigned furiously across the state. From top to bottom, big events to small, Clinton pounded the pavement in the state like she did in the final days before the Iowa caucuses.
Except that this time, she won and it wasnt even close.
...
Her campaign views California as a harbinger of things to come. By this point, Clintons sophisticated campaign organization is a well-oiled machine tested in a grueling competition against a well-funded opponent. Meanwhile presumed Republican nominee Donald Trump has yet to put in place the kind of organization that has been typical of presidential candidates in both parties for decades.

Right... They were organizing Mexicans in southwest Texas in 1972 to vote for George McGovern.

In retrospect it reminds me of Iowa where she beat him there because she had to despite Senator Sanders having the contest in a caucus state which is homogeneous and sparsely populated; an arena which became his bailiwick.

brought her the victory.
Diversity is the central pillar of her win.

She didn't craft a message and target a group of people she never saw before the campaign. She reached out to relationships that were that for decades.
I've heard criticism that she is cynical, but no one starts a forty year relationship because they plan on using it to run for president some day. Her relationships are genuine and can not be reproduced.
