(364 posts)Why the double standard? He will be President Clinton, and also the First Gentleman of USA. Not dude, not willie. He deserves the same respect as any other first lady. She will be the First Lady ...President and he will be the First First Gentleman! He should wear that with pride.

(443 posts)cost my father his job with NAFTA. So I don't have to respect him. Clintons have not turned America into a dictatorship yet, though a it is a bit closer after Hillary voted for the patriot act.
Shemp Howard
(889 posts)The TPP is on the way. Hillary will push it, should she be elected in November.
It's what the Clintons do. They pushed NAFTA, and NAFTA destroyed this generation's middle class. The TPP will destroy the middle class forever.
But let's all vote for Hillary anyway. It's historic! To hell with the middle class.
I'm not buying any of that. I'm writing Bernie in come November.

(24,544 posts)But rest assured, they'll all be screaming again shortly about how Hillary supporters need to "be nice" to them and stop being "sore winners."
She is kicking ass tonight -- and they damn sure know it. The folks making these nasty counter productive comments would garner more sympathy if they weren't being so needlessly juvenile and nasty.

But are poor losers.

(889 posts)If a company president had an affair with an intern, on company property, on company time, that person would be shamed, then fired. NOW would be calling for his head.
But it's Bill Clinton. So let's call him "First Laddie". That's so much catchier than "Abuser of Women".
Whimsey
(236 posts)Monica admitted she came on to Bill. She bore him no animus over the affair. It was her "friend", Valerie Plume, a republican operative secretly recording their girlfriend chats, who outed her relationship with Bill.
And the reality is, 25 years ago the rules were different. Even Newt was banging his intern, Calista, while his wife was dying of cancer, and at the same time he was going after Clinton for his affair.
I am a firm believer that the vast majority of middle-aged men, if offered a bj by a nubile young woman with a guarantee his wife would never know would take it. Speaks volumes about my opinion of the male population, doesn't it?
But First Laddie works for me. Extra marital sex does not make one an abuser. Otherwise we would have to designate 50% of the married population as such.
Shemp Howard
(889 posts)Bill was the POTUS! He had great power over anyone who worked in the White House. He especially had power over an intern. It doesn't matter if Monica came on to Bill. It was Bill's responsibility to avoid all of that.
Generals should not have affairs with privates in their command. Professors should not have affairs with students in their classes. It really is a strong vs. weak thing.
If Bill and Monica had just been two adults who had met at a bar, then who would care? I wouldn't care, even if one, or both, were married.
Whimsey
(236 posts)She is not driven by her libido.
I agree that Bill should not have entered into the relationship. But men do not think with their minds when they're being stroked.
And many of the presidents had extra-marital affairs. And Monica was like 22 or 23. She came after college. She was not some naïve teenager.
When I was in law school in 1979 one of classmates had an affair with her law professor. Her parents were furious but because she was over 21 the school did nothing about it. They eventually married. It happens all the time - a 20 year old something marrying a 40 year old whose marriage she broke up.
I dislike extremely young female predators looking for financially established men. And I have known several. I dislike extremely men cheating on their wives or vice versa. But they don't lose their jobs over a consensual of age sexual relationship unless there is a specific company policy.

(11,607 posts)That's what they called the president's husband on Commander in Chief, and I think on 24 in season 8.
First Laddie is cute though.
I am looking forward to seeing Bill Clinton compete in the "First Lady" Cookie Baking Contest, which ironically, Hillary started in 1992 after people criticized her for saying that she could have stayed home and baked cookies instead of having a career.
