A New York Times journalist reported on Twitter that she had received three separate death threats after penning a piece calling the Democratic primary for Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton Has Clinched Democratic Nomination, Survey Reports, Times reporters Amy Chozick and Patrick Healy wrote Monday. The piece was not based off of the Times delegate count, but reported on an announcement from the Associated Press that they were calling the race for Clinton.
Supporters of Clintons opponent Bernie Sanders were less than happy with the piece, and at least three of them called Chozick on her personal phone to threaten her.
I won't be answering calls from unknown numbers today, after third call from Bernie supporters telling me they'd hunt me down in the streets

(30,481 posts)Stories like this are tough for both sides. We know they are going to be posted and we know a lot of the intent is to hang a dark cloud over whole groups. That is the direction your comment comes from. At the same time, they do have to be posted.
I promise you that as a Clinton supporter I fully get it. I have even made light of serious situations out of a personal want to fight back as you have done here. I get that your comment is not cold.
Day after day we sit here and read "Clinton supporter did this" and "Sanders supporter did that." Well damn, by our own definitions we include ourselves in those two groups. Gets pretty pointed and personal after awhile.

(443 posts)As the reporter did. It has been done some many times it is sad really. Because now if this is true it probably will not be taken seriously. Same with all crys this primary of people saying that Sanders was racist and Sexist. It sucks now that DNC has to go aginst Trump who is a real sexist and racist. But Clinton lost any credit she can use to claim it because she used it against Sanders who has a record of supporting race equality and women rights. All Clinton did was Cry wolf won too many times.

(28,341 posts)Sometimes a few bad apples lose their shit.
Sometimes you have to take people at their word and for sure take them seriously if they are making terroristic threats on the phone.
Sometimes you have to stop seeing conspiracy theories everywhere just because something is uncomfortable.
Sometimes Occam's razor is a truly useful tool.

(9,959 posts)...no big surprise. Think about some of the ways Hillary has been described here on DU, and her perceived crimes - stealing the election, taking bribes from Wall Street, killing thousands, etc... hopefully, Bernie will be able to change some minds.

(11,330 posts)because violence is so cool and revolutionary
besides...
why should any person threatening violence be held accountable...after all its only 20 minutes or less of action in their lives.
like that stanford rapist...its not really a threat...cause Bernie supporters wouldn't threaten..
any more than the stanford rapists friends would accept that he could be a rapist

(39,374 posts)It was one of the most unattractive things about his campaign, actually. The admonitions always came late and weak, as in his pathetic post-NV meltdown statement, and the simplistic pictures he painted of a greedy establishment creating rigged games and helpless victims didn't improve the mood either.
For future reference, here's how you get the same types of points across and channel anger into positive energy:

I don't support death threats by any means in any circumstance but it's easy to figure out why people (even some Hillary supporters) are anything ranging from very uncomfortable with what the media did yesterday -- to downright PISSED.

(68,868 posts)As a general rule, it's safe to assume that every thing after the "but" is sincere but everything before the "but" is dubious.
This wasn't even an AP reporters, this was at NY Times reporter, reporting what the AP said.
