2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust posting this because it seems an apt summary of American Politics c:2016
An old George Carlin rant....but seems even more timely today.
We had an election season that started out with the possibility that there might actually be progressive reform and an actual contest of ideas and issues. The chickens have come to roost after 35 years of relentless suppression of liberalism and participatory democracy -- and the pendulum in prime position to be pushed left towards an actual center.
But despite public pressure for change, we're back to the same old, same old....With the only difference being that the GOP has a candidate who is even worse than usual.
Otherwise.......

So undemocratic. The revolutionary vanguard should be able to declare itself the winner no matter what voters say.

They're such dupes huh? We could have a perfect socialist state if they just saw what you see so clearly.

(47,803 posts)Don't much care to argue about it, if you really think we have fair and open elections with a free exchange of information and ideas on a level playing field.
Have fun with your election campaign. Trump is truly an awful man.

(5,198 posts)that was squandered after 911, the nationwide enthusiasm and willingness to participate and build a future by PEACEFUL MEANS has been squandered by more neo cons who think they can lead better through ruthlessness. It's very Kissingeresque.
Yes, they are owners and takers, not leaders.

That's fucking idiotic bullshit right there.

(47,803 posts)If you think things through we have fucked things up big time.I'm not just talking about this primary or this election. That's just a symptom.
I'm not advocating being a hermit -- but ultimately we have sold ourselves out, and we have ceded control of our lives and communities to handful of elites and the immoral corporations and financial gangsters who don't give a shit about us.
I could give you countless examples but why bother?
We can distract ourselves, focus on good things in out personal spheres to find happiness, ignore the big picture and fool ourselves. But we are owned lock, stock and barrel -- and we foolishly did it to ourselves.

(15,429 posts)CArlin describes something that is not real, has never been real, and never will be real in this coountry.
Nothing is fucked up. Everything is functioning as designed in the constitution.
It's a beautiful thing to behold and naysayers like Carlin can just go fuck themselves as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to know them. I don't want to listen to that bullshit because life is too short to waste even a second on that sort of negative bullshit that has no meaning whatsoever any way.

EVERYTHING IS FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED IN THE CONSTITUTION!
And it's a BEAUTIFUL THING!
