Sanders Super Delegate Merkley Says Party Unity to Begin Today

“We have to be unified to take on Trump. And that unity is going to begin today as soon as the polls close,” Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., says on CNN.

“To come together, people have to feel like they’ve been respected and they’ve been heard,” Merkley says
“It is absolutely important to be together”

To the degree that we can achieve a measure of unity on DU, this will bode well for the general population of Democrats. We represent the tip of the spear. To the extent that we can blunt the sharp edges of that spear on DU, the better our chances to defeat the monster Trump. It will happen incrementally here.

We also should not delude ourselves into thinking that the process will be easy. Dare I say that we must take an incremental approach to unification.

Everyone has been heard. Everyone has spoken. The voters have decided, and more will decide today. It's time, now, to unite behind the Democratic nominee, who has been selected by the voters.

Today's primaries will just make it more clear, when they show that Hillary Clinton has a strong majority of pledged delegates. Merkley will be voting for her at the convention, too, where she will be nominated by acclamation, I'm sure.

It's time to start fighting Trump. We can all agree on that, and we should.
