2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWho ever in the DNC allowed the race to be called
before the largest state could vote has just lost two votes for their chosen one.
My wife and I will stand in solidarity with the dismissed citizens of California and not allow our votes to be counted in November.

(8,133 posts)there is on this board. i don't expect this from Democrats. I'm sorry to get do exasperated but everyone needs to go out and work on a Presidential campaign here or something!
The media usually does pick someone they like and want to win, yes, but no party, candidate has the power to control mainstream media. Now Cheney did have some power AFTER BushCo was selected because he had some scary connections and he was a scary guy and Faux News always helps along the Republican candidate. LBJ also had a lot of power because he also scared the crap out of everyone but that was back in the old days.
Hillary or Bernie, etc. could bribe, cajole, etc., etc., and they wouldn't get anywhere. Most of the media picks someone they want to win and they do help them along but a candidate cannot buy or force that....
It is true that there is favoritism - how you get that is sometimes the candidates likeability to them. Or, if the the other candidates scare the hell out of them that would also help. If someone had a prescription for how to do it, or was able to do it, as a consultant, etc. you would be a billionaire and everyone would be at your beck and call.

(7,769 posts)They sure don't have any complaints of the national media.
"Comcast, which has been named Americas worst company, is an honored guest at this years Democratic National Convention.
Philadelphia, which is the home of the cable giants headquarters, is also hosting this years Democratic National Convention at the Comcast Spectators Wells Fargo Center. And as the New York Post recently reported, the Democratic Party is offering prime access to convention activities and leading elected officials to Comcast executives who donate $100,000 or more.
These so-called Empire Donors are given access to members of Congress for photo-ops at the convention podium, slots at VIP dinners, and even tickets to a New York Yankees game with a special guest. Progressive advocacy organization Public Citizen told the Post the arrangement reeks of a corrupt, pay-for-play system.
The company that chips in with $100,000 will have one-on-one access with the presidential candidate and congressional lawmakers as well, and they are buying influence in our government, Public Citizen spokesman Craig Holman told the Post. Its one of the most offensive elements of our campaign process, an embarrassment that doesnt pass the smell test and has never passed the smell test."

(14,255 posts)I told him it was premature. He said it looks like they want to suppress the vote - but won't people skip voting for Hillary if they think she already won? I said I hope so.
He also said it now looks like the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are in a race to see which can be the shittiest party.
We will be voting down-ticket in November, except we won't vote for DINOs. And we will be voting for Bernie. I will also become non-affiliated tomorrow. Ashamed to be in a party that stands for war and fracking and the TPP, amongst other reprehensible things.

(458 posts)The whole media has been in the tank for both Trump and Hillary, while giving radio silence to Bernie's campaign.
Meanwhile the head of the DNC has been a super loyal and devoted Clinton supporter from day one, and proudly so, yea, no bias there. (sarcasm)
How "fair and balanced" this whole process has been, DNC.

(8,069 posts)Candidates, parties, not even government gets to "allow" the press to do this or that. In this context that word seems strangely authoritarian.
As for you "standing in solidarity with the citizens of California"--many of whom who will no doubt vote for Hillary tomorrow--I'm sure the Latino citizens and their families will appreciate that. Nothing says "solidarity" like refusing to cast a vote against a xenophobic and misogynist authoritarian who wants to ban all Latinos from the judiciary.

(8,133 posts)Obviously, no one here who claiming this has ever worked in a high level on a campaign or for the media. The media (other than Faux) picks which candidate they like and does help them along but trying to get them to do something for a candidate or the DNC when they do NOT like the candidate is like trying to herd a pack of cats. Maybe you could get ONE low level reporter to write a nice story about your candidate but to get the AP or the major networks forget it!

(9,959 posts)...call the race. The news orgs did... while I don't like their timing, I don't see why they would suddenly change how they do things just because it's Hillary Clinton. The woman should be treated fairly... stop changing the goalposts because it's Hillary.
