"If I hear anybody say it was because Romney wasn't conservative enough I'm going to go nuts. We're not losing 95% of African-Americans and two-thirds of Hispanics and voters under 30 because we're not being hard-ass enough."
-- Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), quoted by Politico, saying that demographics would be the only reason for a hypothetical Mitt Romney loss Tuesday.

(204 posts)He is, of course, right. One almost wishes they had run Santorum. Then the far right pukes would see what a Real Landslide looks like!! They have every reason to recognize that they have rendered themselves irrelevant to national politics with their far far right primaries. But they won't get it. We can count on it.

(8,758 posts)I don't know any young person (in their 20s) that votes for conservatives. They're either voting for liberals or they aren't voting at all (because they are dumb, IMO). But they certainly aren't voting for conservatives. I also know only a handful of women who are voting Republican.
So I think the GOP's main voting blocks are "older" angry white males and the religious zealots and the 300 or so super-rich in America.

(24,437 posts)I'd almost feel sorry for them being left behind but then again they're not really trying to keep up with the times either- they have to keep performing for the knuckledraggers so that they don't get targeted for defeat in their next primary. They don't want to lose their cushy jobs and benefits.
