Let me tell you about my grandfather

He's 93. A lifelong Democrat who worked for the CCC, fought in Europe during WWII and lost a brother there, and one in the Pacific. He came home and got married, had children, learned a trade and joined a union, where he became shop steward, President of his union, and a union rep to the national conference. He lost another brother in Korea, a nephew in Vietnam, and a goddaughter in Iraq. He retired, and then got another job, and finally, several years ago, sold his home and is now living in an assisted living facility.

In late summer, he asked the BoE for voter registration forms, and held a registration drive at his assisted living facility. The last month, he has heavily GOTVed at the facility for President Obama, targeting veterans, ex union members, women who don't fit the other categories, etc. He has educated himself on the issues, and told my father last night that he's swayed over 100 fellow residents who would have voted for Romney, because Obama is black, a Muslim, a socialist, or whatever. He is 93, remember. He is kinda racist, quite homophobic, and pretty sexist, but he knows what is good for this country.

He was appalled to find out my uncle and his family all voted for Romney, and very pleased to find out me, my parents, and sibling's family all voted for Obama.

I just found his GOTVing really touching and humbling, although I hate the word, inspirational. He is why I will never say NC is lost, or VA is lost, or OH is lost.

Republicans are all about victory and crushing their enemies even if they eek out a 1% majority.

For many years now, I as a BOOMER have been unable to wrap my head around what has happened to this country.

So hearing about your grandfather who has lived through so much more than I have, would have a good reason to be completely cynical. So Kudos to him for his activism and inspiration to so many others.

(and now I am crying)

It is people like him that make me know that America is worth saving, that God will protect us from the evil that has taken over our government/media.

Thank you!!
