This is the message that Jill Stein is putting out right now.
An Open Letter from Jill Stein to California Voters
All Hands on Deck! Two Ways To Build The Revolution in the CA Primary
Vote for Me if Youre Registered Green - Vote for Bernie if Youre Independent or a Democrat
California voters have a chance to put us on the road to revolutionary change in the June 7 primary.
At this historic moment, as voters reject the Clinton and Trump campaigns with record high levels of dislike and mistrust, I ask not just for your vote for me, but also for your vote for Bernie. These votes are powerfully synergistic as we build an historic grassroots movement and a political vehicle to carry it forward.

This is posted for informational purposes only and in no way represents any kind of support for a third party candidate.
It is just interesting to consider how this might affect the results in California.

(249 posts)Jill Stein is an ineffective politician and never garners more than token support. Thanks for the post though, it's good food for thought.

(2,542 posts)statewide or national offices. She's the candidate for people who have the privilege of pretending that they are part of some kind of "silent majority" just waiting to take over.
She'll never have my vote.
PowerToThePeople
(9,610 posts)She knows what is good for the USA and is placing the needs of the nation over herself and her party in this election.
Still, the battle is not over. The Democratic nomination is in contention. The more the Sanders team can raise the bar for the people not the billionaires, the stronger we will all be for it.
I urge you to reject the propaganda of powerlessness peddled by the corporate pundits and party operatives of the liberal elite. They tell us all Berners and Greens alike we must rally around Hillary Clinton as the lesser evil alternative to Donald Trump.

(9,610 posts)She is still GOTV for Bernie, so I will not disparage her on that effort.
Her support is much more appreciated than Hillary's trying to bring in Bush donors.

(8,974 posts)Fragmenting the vote of self-professed progressives and expecting a positive result is beyond ludicrous. For starters, her being on the ballot only hurts Bernie. Hey, I'm actually a Hillary supporter who recognizes who and what is truly evil in the larger presidential campaign. But from my own perspective I'm guessing that it must be a bit frustrating for the Sanders campaign to have a Nader-like spoiler candidate (favoring a closed primary for her party no less) siphoning off votes in a close election. "D-U-B-M" !!!!

(11,995 posts)Based on brooklynite's post above (someone who always seems well-informed on these things), there's no way for this to siphon off anyone's votes, as Green party registrants can't vote for Bernie, and dems/inds can't vote for Jill. What she's doing that's unusual is, not just trying to motivate Green party members to get out and vote for her, but to also motivate people who can't vote for her to vote for Bernie if they are eligible to.
Zambero
(8,974 posts)But she is on the ballot. A better case scenario for those who share progressive ideals would have been for Greens to re-register Democratic this go-round in order to provide Bernie with a bit of an edge over Hillary. As it stands, any Green Party votes she receives that could otherwise have gone to Bernie will be wasted opportunities. In a close election, these things matter. Gawd, it's tough playing a devil's advocate. But stupid strategy deserves to be called out. Politics is certainly not rocket science by a long shot.
thesquanderer

(8,974 posts)However, in the big picture that amounts to 30 steps forward for Bernie (presuming all former Greens will vote for him and not Hillary) and 70 steps back, a net opportunity loss of 40, potentially critical in an anticipated close race.

e.g., MSNBC To the deniers... Watch THIS Video... It is not comforting to think that she may well be the Democratic Nominee...
Hillary really betrayed Andrea Mitchell... The entire context of this report was of a solemn nature... A Funeral so to speak...
Andrea Mitchell "I do not see this report as ...ANYTHING BUT... DEVASTATING!"
Chuck Todd "After this I don't think that she could get confirmed for Attorney General!"
Lots of FIBBING by Hillary here.. for more than a year!

(94,771 posts)She hasn't been nominated yet; I thought we weren't allowed to consider anyone the "presumptive" nominee.

(58,724 posts)The Green Party (included Stein) used to argue strongly in favor of closed primaries.
Now she (and presumably the party?) is jumping on Bernie's open primary bandwagon.

(8,974 posts)Whoever Jill is, the notion of instructing voters to vote for this candidate or that candidate on the basis of one's political registration seems like a bit of a stretch. If she truly wanted to affect the outcome in close match-up between the two top tier Democratic candidates, it seems like not being on the ballot and supporting Bernie instead would have made more sense. Fragmenting the progressive vote and expecting a favorable result seems, well, stupid.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)She has been trying to reach out to Bernie to form some kind of alliance but it seems that he has been less than receptive to such a thing.

It's a moot point. Hillary will be nominee when the polls close in New Jersey. Hours later, most of America will be in bed or going to bed when the post-primary happens on the west coast.

(382 posts)... Senator Sanders was used by the NRA, Jeb Bush and other riders in the Clown Car to score points against Secretary Clinton. Lately, he's been Trump's huckleberry. Now, a loser like Jill Stein is using Mr. Second Place. He's officially an embarrassment.
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)I would say Jill Stein is desperate. Sanders did not accept her invitation, and his own campaign has siphoned off her voter base in California. The article below also shows that the other left party, Peace and Freedom Party, lost 9%.
California Green Party has lost 30% of its members since Bernie announced.
Those are the words of California Green Party spokesman Mike Feinstein, who, in response to an inquiry from Mother Jones on Friday, visited the website of the California Secretary of State. He discovered, to his consternation, that his party has lost 30 percent of its members in the months since Sanders launched his presidential campaign. "I am apoplectically mad right now," Feinstein says. "I am so disgusted with this."
"They intentionally went after our voters because they are low-lying fruit on the issues," he adds, citing mailers the Sanders campaign sent to Green Party members.
The steep drop in Green registration underscores how Sanders has energized California's far-left electorate.
The party's steep decline in registrationfrom nearly 110,000 voters in early 2015 to 78,000 nowrepresents a tiny fraction of California's 18 million registered voters. Yet it underscores how the Sanders campaign has made deep inroads into California's liberal electorate, tapping voters who may have never before considered voting for a Democrat.
California's other major leftist third party, the Peace and Freedom Party, has also seen a significant drop in registration since last year, losing about 7,000 voters, or 9 percent of its members.
