Related: About this forum2nite's Philadelphia Dinner Party Talk: a Clinton/Sanders Grand Compromise?
Imagine what a changed world it would be if Sanders and Clinton were to work out some kind of "Grand Compromise" in Philadelphia. Maybe a Clinton/Sanders ticket. Maybe fair Sanders representation on committees. Convention would turn into a love fest. The party would totally kick Trump's ass in November. Cheering Millennial crowds.
Grand Compromises are rare. U.S. had one in 1787. I believe Tunisia worked out a Grand Compromise after the Arab Spring and it's one of the few Arab nations that is better off today.
An old man can always dream.

(2,419 posts)Suppose Clinton offers nothing to Sanders but Deal X. Maybe Deal X is the right to suggest Supreme Court nominee. Maybe Cabinet seat. Maybe pay off campaign debts. If Deal X is the best he can get, Sanders might take it and put a brave face on it. Both Clinton and Sanders campaigns would announce it as a Grand Compromise.
But who would we trust to determine whether the deal really was HUUUUGE or just a token? There's only a few people I would trust. One is Robert Reich. Another is Noam Chomsky.
