2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum"Rome was not built in a day".
And neither is a political movement. It would be sad to see the movement, that has been started by Bernie Sanders, disappear like smoke. In my opinion, that is the direction it is headed with the present campaign tactics and propaganda.
Instead of building a wall around what has already been built, it is time to open the doors and let more people into the movement. It is doubtful that Bernie will be running again four years from now. What happens then?
Hillary is not the only candidate that will need to consolidate her supporters if she is the nominee. Bernie will have the same problem. It is time for him to realize that fact.
If he wins California and happens to win the nomination, which is a very, very long shot, then he will need all the help he can get from Democrats and Independents that are not on his bandwagon at this time. It was wrong for him to criticize Hillary Clinton, the one time that Donald Trump was called to task. It was not classy, in my opinion.
If Bernie supporters wish to live another day, after this election, they need to start thinking like there is a tomorrow. There is a chance that Bernie may lose the nomination. What then? Do we continue to build the movement or do we pout in the corner and attack Hillary as the right-wing slips into the White House. It's time for some adult thinking, in my opinion.

(2,039 posts)refuse every Bernie demand and not let him speak at the convention unless he endorses Hillary.

(15,139 posts)not going to be Hillary's running mate. She's more popular than Hillary and considerably to her left. She woudn't want to share a ticket with her. Bernie has earned the right to speak at the convention and he will have a large number of delegates there. Only a fool would try to keep him off the stage with the world watching and his supporters needed in the fall, or do you think Hillary can win without them? Good luck with that.

It would be a shame to see it disappear. Or relegated to "fringe' status. If Bernie doesn't win the nomination this time around, if he plays his hand right, then the movement will be much stronger 4 years from now and will be ready to assume leadership of this country, in my opinion. But, it can be torn down just as quickly.

(154,021 posts)those who prevent peaceful revolutions, will engender violent ones. We are slowly moving towards that.
I predict the next 4 years will be interesting, regardless of who gets elected. And I do not mean that in a good way. Things are truly starting to boil over. Occupy should have woken the oligarchy and perhaps it did. Cops are even more militarized.

(111,110 posts)but I think we have a chance for a peaceful revolution, with Bernie, if we do not blow it.

(154,021 posts)well the oligarchy has protected itself, They made that choice. And I will pretend to vote on Tuesday, since I might as well have my vote count for Kasich, never mind I am not a republcians, or not count at all
Stalin said it best. It is not who votes who matters, but who counts them. So I shall pretend.

(30,613 posts)And I do not wish to live in interesting times (again), but that is the hand we've been dealt. Last time around, the revolution was crushed by means of assassinations and riot police (or police riots). How shall we prepare?
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)and how to prepare I don't know

Then the rules and atmosphere changes and what could be domestically is forgotten.
It is sobering to think that more war feeds into the oligarchy by any name.

(45,851 posts)Sure that Bernie Sanders or anyone remotely like him never ever scares the hell out of the establishment again.
Sometimes you only get one bite at the apple, I never expected to win in the first place.

(2,872 posts)There will be no tomorrow for the movement in this party, because I'd bet my left leg that the DNC is trying to suss out how to keep another Sanders event from happening, and Tom Wheeler types are one in a billion. The world will perish in risen seas and nuclear war. Simple as that.

The opposite of love isn't hate it's indifference, I'll go back to indifference, caring is too damn upsetting.
